Oil spill on
ECP causes massive jam during morning rush hour
SINGAPORE: An oil spill on the East Coast Parkway (ECP) on
Friday morning (May 27) caused a massive traffic jam on the
expressway during the morning peak period.
The spill, which occurred along ECP towards Changi before the
Bayshore exit, was caused by an accident between a lorry and a car.
There were no injuries reported, the Singapore Police Force
said.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the spill
measured about 2m by 10m.
A Channel NewsAsia reporter who was at the scene at about 8.45am
said shattered glass was seen on one lane of the expressway. A
black car with its front bumper badly dented was being towed
away.
SCDF said they dispatched two fire engines to help in the
clearing of the spillage before handing the case over to the
Traffic Police.
In a Facebook post at 9.54am, the police said the accident had
caused congestion to the Still Road South exit. It advised
motorists to avoid using the road and to use alternative routes if
possible.
At 10.22am, the police said in another post that all lanes along
the expressway are now open to traffic.
