Heavy traffic
at land checkpoints for Labour Day long weekend
SINGAPORE: Traffic flow through the land checkpoints at
Woodlands and Tuas are expected to be heavy during the Labour Day
long weekend, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said
in a news release on Tuesday (Apr 26).
During this period, travellers can expect heavy traffic leaving
Singapore on Apr 29, and "particularly heavy" traffic toward
Singapore on May 2, it said, adding that travellers using land
checkpoints can expect delays.
With the implementation of the BioScreen system at the passenger
halls of land checkpoints, traffic build-up is "inevitable",
especially when a large number of travellers use the checkpoint at
the same time, ICA said. The BioScreen system will capture the
thumbprints of arriving and departing visitors.
"To avoid a surge of travellers and vehicles seeking clearance
at the land checkpoints, travellers are advised to adjust their
travel plans if possible," it added.
Travellers leaving Singapore by Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint
will be able to check the traffic situation from LTA’s Expressway
Monitoring & Advisory System (EMAS) installed along the AYE and
BKE respectively, ICA said.
