I believe if they directly import their chevys from the states, then the price would not be so low liao...thats my opinion lah

Vios is in my list too but there are too many on the road now...since then, it has dropped to the bottom of my list...

I am interested in Aveo too and has also shortlisted Vios. You have to be careful with Vios pricing as the price advertised in newspaper is for manual without deluxe package (cheapest). Anyway, I have seen an increasing number of Vios on the road but not much Aveo yet. I like Aveo for the design (HB and sedan), low price tag, freebies (leather seats etc.) and choice of colours. There is a number of good reviews for Aveo overseas eg. in US but they are using 1.6 engine unlike Singapore's 1.4 version. If it is not for the daewoo relation, I will book a Chevrolet Aveo right away ! At the meantime, am hoping to bump into an Aveo owner on the road to ask him for feedback... Cool

We have a couple of owners here who drive an aveo. I not booking the aveo this weekend alreadie since my bro mentioned about the low parf and omv. Reliability better on japanese made cars. So i chooising either the vios or sunny alreadie… Hope I dont change my mind and regret!

glad that you have made your choice...infact, if u really wan to be sure...a jap brand would not be wrong....

I personally think its quite fair....I pay low for the car price, naturally i dun expect my parf or OMV to be that good too.... Wink
I am keen on the Aveo, the shiny black is especially classy...but recently the new facelifted Kia Rio Hatch is catching my attention too...i mean its a good value for money...considering the big space behind...

For me, been a budget wheeler, that new Picanto is not a bad choice for me...been waiting for the new stock to arrive cus the 1st batch has been surprising all snapped up during the road show!

A number of new models of car will be introduced in Singapore around June/July 04 eg. GEN2 from Proton (http://www.proton.com/)....It may be better to wait for a few months before booking a car. The picanto model (http://www.kia-picanto.com) which you are talking about looks cool. The shape resembles Daihatsu YRV / Mazda 2.

Surely, japanese car models are reputed to be reliable. But it is not true that Vios is a full Japanese car. Reviews mentioned that only the engine and gearbox are from Japanese with the whole car assembled in Thailand, thus the difference in price. Japanese made Toyotas are more expensive. My only dislike for Vios is the absence of 60:40 split rear seats which prevents the loading of long items.

why not go test drive a suzuki liana. the 1.3 is also around your price range, very spacious and its a full jap made car. although the shape a bit odd, but after a while it looks ok liao. or the hatchback one will look nicer. interior also very nice after the facelift. only shortfore is pick -up a bit slow for the 1.3. but other then dat, everything else is good.

Are you sure there is no airbags? Saw on the website of chevrolet and saw the safety section and it's indicated that there are Airbags leh... Hmmm...

actually u cant say that u wont go wrong with a jap brand.... vios is also made in thailand...
chevy aveo is american but made in korea...
thats a point... but to compare it back to back the aveo/optra comes with almost everything a toyota sales person wont be able to give. example the leather, fog lamps, cd changer etc... i bet toyota would have a price tag for all these....
i'm not bias but somehow i feel with the amount of vios on the roads and the long delivery wait, might as well get something cheaper and faster(delivery time)?

oh yah... before i forget, the aveo is using the new 1.4 dohc engine... unlike the old daewoo kalos using the 1.5 sohc.
after sales service also important arh... as everyone know BM not really good in this area...
which car maker does surveys on the distributor's service to customers??? as far as i know General Motors(GM) currently most chevy and opel owners are included in the survey after purchasing their cars.

Any Chevry optra owners encountered sound when you depress the brake. Sound to me like "over-tighen bicycle brake system"

Anyone having this problem for optra as in when u depress the brake, you get a strange sound like "over-tighened bicycle brake sound"

What is the cause of it and how to solve it?

The brake disc may not be set properly. Better get the technician to correct it.

If the sound comes from the front of your brake pedal, the mechanism might be hitting against something.

What happen if you stop the car, turn off the engine and step on the brake pedal. Is the sound more obvious when the wheels are running ?

can someone give more details abt the concern abt Aveo using daewoo engines? I’m considering getting the auto Aveo HB, but not familiar with such aspects. how’s the handling of the car?
