oxford mushroom SG Do people use it as a laxative nowadays? I thought there are many more effective alternatives. Maxalon (metoclopramide) is a dopamine antagonist that appears to regulate peristaltic movement in the upper GI...It increases gastric emptying, and so I used to prescribe it quite often for nausea associated with flatulence and bloatedness. The idea was that it could help alleviate some degree of gastroparesis by moving stomach contents along. I suppose it probably has some effect on lower GI mobility as well and that's probably why people are using it as a laxative now. I didn't realize this new indication until now but I have been out of clinical medicine for a while...
renorenal SG Hahaha... I know... I was just pulling their leg because that drug was being talked about the other day... Yeah, initially it was used prior to surgery to clear out the stomach contents to prevent aspiration pneumonia intraoperatively. It is also being used quite commonly for dyspepsia. It has minimal action on the lower gut hence it is not often used for constipation. Usually they will be prescribed along with another laxative called syrup lactulose if the patient has both upper and lower GI symptoms...
