SINGAPORE: A new Zika cluster has been confirmed at Highland Road and Jansen Close near Kovan, with two cases of locally transmitted infection, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Tuesday (Apr 25).

Both are residents in the area, said NEA, adding that it has started operations to kill mosquitoes in the area.

There are now three active Zika clusters in Singapore around the same neighbourhood. NEA said an additional case was confirmed at the Glasgow Road cluster on Monday and another new case at the Poh Huat Road West/Poh Huat Terrace/Terrasse Lane cluster on Tuesday.

The cluster at Flower Road/Hendry Close closed on Tuesday and is being kept under surveillance, said NEA.

It urged residents to be vigilant and continue to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats, as there could still be "asymptomatic or mild, undiagnosed cases which might result in further transmission of the virus if there are mosquitoes in the vicinity".

New Zika cluster reported at Parry Avenue

SINGAPORE: Two cases of locally transmitted Zika have been confirmed at Parry Avenue at the Serangoon Garden area, the National Environment Agency announced on Friday (Jun 9).

Both cases are residents in the vicinity. NEA has commenced operations to destroy mosquito breeding spots at the cluster area.

"Residents and stakeholders are urged to maintain vigilance and continue to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats, as there could still be asymptomatic or mild, undiagnosed cases which might result in further transmission of the virus if there are mosquitoes in the vicinity," NEA said.

It added that it had been conducting preventive inspections in the area before the cluster at Parry Avenue was notified. Zika information leaflets and insect repellents will be distributed to households and residents are advised to apply repellent as a precaution, NEA said.

Two locally transmitted Zika cases were reported at the nearby Kovan area in late April.

NEA advises members of the public to seek medical attention if they are unwell, especially with symptoms such as fever and rash.

This new cluster was notified on Wednesday, and NEA has commenced vector control operations at the cluster area.

SINGAPORE: Three cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection have been confirmed at Serangoon North Avenue 1, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Wednesday (Jul 26).

All three cases are residents in the area, it added.

NEA said it was notified of the cluster on Wednesday and has started vector control operations and outreach efforts at the cluster area.

The agency said: "NEA has been conducting preventive inspections in the vicinity before the cluster at Serangoon North Avenue 1 was notified to detect and destroy any potential mosquito breeding habitats."

It urged residents to maintain vigilance and continue to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats, as there could still be asymptomatic or mild, undiagnosed cases which might result in further transmission of the virus if there are mosquitoes in the vicinity.

"Zika information leaflets and insect repellents will be distributed to households to raise the general awareness of Zika, and reiterate the need for source reduction to prevent mosquito breeding. Residents are advised to apply repellent as a precaution," NEA said.

Second Zika cluster reported at Serangoon North Avenue 1

SINGAPORE: A second Zika cluster has been reported at Serangoon North Avenue 1, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Friday (Aug 4).

There were four cases of the locally transmitted virus infection in this cluster, with all of them involving residents of blocks 109, 115 and 116, NEA added.

The first Serangoon North Avenue 1 cluster, which was announced on Jul 26, comprised three cases made up of residents living in blocks 125, 126 and 127.

Said the agency, more than 940 premises in the first cluster have been inspected since Thursday. Nine breeding habitats - six of which were in homes and three in common areas - were found and destroyed.

NEA has since extended ongoing vector control operations in the vicinity to the new cluster, which was notified on Friday.

NEA urged members of the public to take immediate steps to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats. It also requested that home owners allowed its officers to carry out inspections and indoor spraying.

Should they feel unwell, members of the public are advised to seek medical attention, especially if they have symptoms like fever and rash. NEA said these individuals should also let their doctor know the locations of their residence and workplace.

New Zika cluster at Serangoon North Ave 1, Serangoon Ville

SINGAPORE: A new Zika cluster was confirmed at Block 143 Serangoon North Avenue 1 and Serangoon Ville, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Monday (Aug 14).

The cluster comprises two locally transmitted cases of the virus, both involving residents of the area.

This is the third cluster to have been identified at Serangoon North Avenue 1 in less than a month. The first cluster, at blocks 125, 126 and 127, has since been closed.

The second cluster, at blocks 109, 115, 116 and 117, remains open. As of Monday, there have been five cases of Zika in the cluster, two of which were in the last two weeks, data on the NEA website showed.

Ongoing vector control operations in the area have been extended to the new cluster, NEA said.

The agency added that its officials were already conducting inspections in the vicinity even before the latest cluster was identified. So far, 11 mosquito breeding habitats have been found and destroyed, seven of which were in homes and four in common areas or other premises, NEA said.

It also urged residents to maintain vigilance and prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
