[Singapore] - Ministry of Manpower investigating two local
construction companies for not paying 31 Bangladeshi construction
workers their wages for the last 8 months ($500 x 8 months) and
attempting to silence them by threatening to force them back to
Bangladesh.
Foreman Miah Razzak, 38, said, his eyes welling up with tears:
"My wife just give birth to a baby girl in December. But because I
have no pay, I have no money to send back to her these few months,
so she have no money to go hospital."
And here's the bitter irony : both companies under investigation
have the same owner, Mr A. B. M. Rafiqul Islam, himself a
Bangladeshi national who has obtained Singapore permanent
residency.
