I was thinking about the famous case of the Murder of Kelly Anne
Bates, in which :
Kelly Anne Bates (18 May 1978 – 16 April 1996) was a British
teenager who was murdered in Manchester on 16 April 1996 when aged
17. She was tortured over a period of four weeks, including having
both her eyes gouged out from their sockets up to three weeks
before her death, by her partner James Patterson Smith (born
c. 1948) before finally being drowned in a bathtub.

So I googled about this, and google threw up a disturbing number
of real-life cases of female victims having their eyes gouged out
alive. One case in particular, you get to hear a 1st hand account
from the victim herself, reliving her horrific experience (she is
now permanently totally blind, with 1 eyeball entirely missing, the
other not working at all).
