Generally the continential car body is solidly built and no one could question about it.. but not the part which is not built to the same standard for durablity...

New car does not means ok. I saw a unknown neighbour last night with his new Jaguars (less then 3 mths) already broken down with the electronic gadgets, like short circuit problem in the electronics -door cannot lock, car can no longer starts again after switch off, only high beams is available for lighting, etc

A hokkien saying: pai4 liao4 li4 yei4 hao4 (when it break down you will cry)

u should buy the old model volkswagon beetle or mini cooper....the engine sound is cool n very safe even when u crash into a lorry Mr. Green

Even if its a continental car, you will have to check the country of manufacture also, coz it makes a big difference!

You are right. Conti car are build to last. The tracking ability is always better than Jap Car. This is my personal experience. If you are driving long distance it is very stable and safe. Especially if you have a small car.

maybe u are just suay ba...but i still feel those continential car like merc and bmw...has exellect build quality..and sitting inside them...is totally different from jap or korean car..and not even to mention...driving them..just love to drive them...give u a sense of security...when u are at the driver seat..

Merc spare parts are not that expensive as u thought and my dad seldom changed parts cos its that reliable.....loew resale value? I beg 2 differ....depends on what brand of continental car u're talking abt

I hav a 520i, Golf GTI, A4..they are reallu lovley to own n drive.
handled well, lotsa part avail, good maintenance support, not so heavy as only once a year servicing, life -long timing belt..
in fact the only car that gave some gearbox problem was the Bm520I..not to mention high FC.
had an 94 accord too..tat one was a drinker!!
jus my 2 cents share...

used to own 6 japs car for over period of 9 years but after owning a LANCIA (ITIALIAN - no longer import into Spore) total changed me... although it was a 8 year old car when I bought it. When I have to scrap it...it condition was so good that it looks it can go another 10 more years easily. While shopping I could not find any brand jap can to can match it....

Expensive parts era is over now with Jap get more & more expesive & part are more easy to get for Contin cars that the different have narrowed. It is just the place u service it...of course don't talk about BMW. But for MERZ
it is so commonly & almost all good workshop can do it & part are readily available anywhere that it is cheaper than some japs...

Have you guys considered Lexus?

Currently driving the entry lvl IS200 & i must admit the ride might not be as good as a bmw or Merc or Audi / Sab / Volvo? but it's close.

FC is averaging 10km/l which is quite decent for a heavy car. Performance is reasonable. Ride quality is good(Definitely better than Toyotas) & equipment lvls amazing. The Beautiful Torso is the nail in the coffin for me. Pricing is also better than the a/b mentioned Conti Cars. Better Reliability(Electronics) easy avail spare-parts at reasonable pricing.

Did not have the priviledge to test drive the 300series which i believe would be for my humble own standard luxurious.

Juz my 2 cents worth! Still a Japanese Engineering Fan..... Mr. Green
