If the death penalty can effectively deter ppl from trafficking
large amount of drug,I may support it.The turth is it can't.
Hanging cannot deter everybody.
However, it can deter a lot of people. If the risk of
hanging is enough to scare many people off drugs, then I have to
say that deterrence does work. Don't come and tell me that the risk
of hanging does not scare you. I know it does scare me. And it does
scare a lot of other people.
While it is sadly true that it does not deter some
people, that does not mean that deterrence does not work. All it
means is that some people are just too stupid or too foolhardy to
be deterred. If they are too stupid to think of the death penalty
when accepting a drug-running assignment, then the fault is all
theirs.
In the end, your point is as good as saying:
'The Police doesn't work, because they still don't deter
some criminals.'
'The Army doesn't work, because we can't deter everyone from
attacking us.'
