More people with the same skills means more competition for limited jobs.

Means you need to lower your salary expectations to get the job lor.

In sg, upgrading means lowering your salary expectations.

No, not at all. The govt using CDC to brainwash people by getting them to go training session to tell them that the trend these days is work more and get low pay. The word "trend" should be changed to "exploitation" instead.

after the loss they made by GIC and Temasick, they now very short of money, finding ways and means to earn more $$$$ to make up for the losses so they come up with all these accreditations --- good ways for their profit making

I think there must be a hidden agenda when they start the compulsory to inform HDB about rented HDB flats. May be later, they going to ask for a share of the rental $$$$$$

"Upgrading" always sounds nice.

But in Singapore's context, it always means something else.

Like "upgrading" to a bigger flat - read it as "taking on more debt"

"Upgrading" your skills - read it as "you are not counted in the unemployment statistics if you are studying for some course full time"

The Taiwanese 'hum' is certainly good at defending the PAP in hiding the real truth about their efforts at creating redundancy.

Is it any surprise that the PAP government is so overbloated with so many Ministers and Second-Ministers, Ministers of State and Permanent Secretaries - all manned by elected PAP Members of Parliament ?

Even the PM has upgraded his position- compared to LKY and GCT - by having the most number of Ministers without Portfolios to support himself while he upgrade his life with hours at Yoga.

Upgrading of skills is pretty much useless.

Why do I say so? It's because of the level of maturity (or the lack thereof) of our businesses.

No one cares about your skills upgrading. They are only interested in how cheap you are. This is the sad state of the Singapore job market, caught in a vicious cycle of sacrificing quality for the sake of costs.

angel7030 (assuming what she said is real, which I highly don't think so) and adam khoo are obvious examples of immature businessmen who only look at the NOW, and not long term.

Even the govt is now implicitly acknowledging its mistake of importing foreigners without control, and causing problems with society.

skill upgrading could be justify whe you are able to help(make) co

1 - earned more $, no bad debts

2 - save costs, help co buy cheaper, durable, better quality (raw) materials

3 - use $ to grow more $ like investment, buy "good" machinery

4 - deisgn, make, etc products that are of lower costs but could earned higher profit margin

Really depends on ones manager.

If sway sway have a stingy manager, dont expect any increase in salary even though one has upgrade and take on new tasks.

And most of the manager belong to stingy group. Their mind is to help company cut cost, make your salary stagnant, give little bonus. No increment. They are the best in doing this and making pple not happy.
