And why don't you answer my
question? What if the boss turns around and asks me how he will
make a profit if he has to employ a local at three times an FT's
wages? Do you see that your bullshit suggestion will not solve any
problem? Or are you too blinded by nationalistic pride to think it
can solve all problems?
Ans: Are singaporeans asking for '3 times' the wage of FT today?
No, they arent. Many locals claim they can do the job of FT, so
dont you think bosses should give them a chance. Anyway, i did not
ask you to confront your boss, I REPEAT. Who are you anyway that
they will listen to? You will need a closeness to convince them of
such social reponsiblities.
Is this bullshit? no. It works. Ask any businessman on
'connections'.
Am I blinded by nationalistic pride? No, only reflecting
market reality that you may not have engaged in.
Why should the govt be involved in
so many businesses? And if it is, why can't it legislate
minimum wages? Why should it employ foreigners?
What biz had the govt involved in other than corporate entities
locals do not have the competitive edge or the financial capital to
do so? No. The govt only goes in, being the ones with society funds
to create a stable employment and financial returns such as SIA,
PSA, etc. On the whole, they had actively stayed away from other
biz.
Minimum wage? That i cannot answer. It will be society's choice
to push their MPs to legislate. I am no MP.
Hire foreigners? It is only because the govt are using our
funds, and thus need to justify labour costs. But were fellow
citizens denied opportunities in supervisory or management
positions if they were capable? None that I know of.
And why don't you respond to
my other points?
I had, with due respect answered your points. And yes, it is
good NOT to talk to me about politics and freedom, simply because
my original post had NOTHING to do with politics and freedom,
which people like you have a warped idea like the africans of the
60s when they gain independence, and destroyed it thru their
ignorance.
My original post is only about civic consciousness action, which
is simple stuff you and I can do, which you ignored and gave
excuses and detracted to loftier aims that you have no
comprehension about.
Singaporeans are not asking for 3 times an FT's wage, FTs are
willing to work at one-third of what a Singaporean will need for
decent living. That's precisely the cause of the problem. The
problem is not with Singaporeans demanding outrageously high wages,
but FTs willing to work for outrageously low wages.
If there were a minimum wage policy, it would change many
things.
"Many locals claim they can do the job of FT, so dont you think
bosses should give them a chance."
Of course they should, but what about the wages? When a boss
says it makes business sense for him to hire FTs in place of
locals, what does one do? Love for fellow Singaporeans won't help
the bottomline.
"You will need a closeness to convince them of such social
reponsiblities."
What is the need for all this? That's why I suggested that govt
step in. But of course you have an aversion to govt interference in
business.
"No. The govt only goes in, being the ones with society funds to
create a stable employment and financial returns such as SIA, PSA,
etc."
SIA, NOL, DBS, POSB, Singtel, Starhub, Singapore Technologies,
Chartered Semiconductor, ST Micro...there's not a single
"homegrown" business the govt has stayed away from. This is why
there is no true Singaporean homegrown company (except for
Creative), no entrepreneurship. Are you going to debate that
too?
People like you are the reason why Li Ao said what he said. Try
to think. Don't believe everything you read in ST or every govt
release. Your blindness clearly shows when you try to pretend
Singapore is a democracy.
