I'm not surprised that you got ticketed at 3.30am. I
live near there (NO I'm not the letter writer)
and got ticketed once at 2am parked across my own
driveway!
I just happened to be on my balcony having a drink with friends
at the time, so went outside to see the traffic warden several
minutes later. When I questioned why I was being ticketed (the
double yellows stop before my driveway) I was told I was blocking a
private residence's entrance. The fact that it was my own entrance
(I'd just walked through the gate) and have no immediate neighbours
made little difference to them.
The $30 was more important than using logic, so I paid
the fine & got on with life, although the dogmaticalness
still makes me laugh.
