11. Our problem is not enough
workers
a. Our unemployment rate is only 2.3% -
considered by economists to be full employment
b. Elderly workers have also found it easier
to find employment
c. This shows that foreign workers have not
taken away the rice-bowl of Singaporeans, but have instead helped
to enlarge the pie.
Unemployement rate is only 2.3% (residents) but they have
perpetually failed to state how many are Singaporeans and how many
are PRs. Given the huge influx of foreigners becoming PRs (with
employment of course, if not....why come) the percentage of
Singaporeans out of job would be negated by the robust
percentage of PRs with jobs. So how can he be sure that foreign
workers did not take away our rice bowls?
Blatant lie.
And with regards to fertility rate...he still missing the point.
Who the heck wants to settle down if costs of living and education
keep moving up. 3 months of maternity leave for women only
(men nt included) when the gestation period is 9 months. In
Sweden, both parents are given paternity and maternity leave for 1
year. No wonder their fertility rates have shown improvement. Here
in sg, baby bonus of a few thousand when education for the child
costs many more times that.
Lost touch with the ground.
A weak speech overall.
