What law did they violate this time?

The Penal Code didn't specify that walking along Orchard Road was an offence. Maybe they should have more grey areas, like the gathering of more than 5 persons is an illegal gathering.

There is a radius around Shangri-la that's gazetted a Protected Place.

The protestors were at the radius picketing.

In any case, they were not charged because I'm sure the govt cannot afford this to be splashed around the international press tmrw.

I just think that our P4P government is hypocritical, you condemn the Burmese military government's crackdown on peaceful protest. Aren't they doing the same by restraining peaceful protest here.

Alot has to be done to reform this authoritarian regime.

But think about it, this year and last, the space for peaceful public protest has improved by a lot. You get small groups of people coming and going with their causes.

I think it will evolve to be something like Section 377A. Where if it doesn't hurt anyone, they'll wayang a bit, throw some cops around to intimidate (like any American city does, perhaps fine one or two ppl for disturbing the peace) and generally not stop a protest.

But if it gets violent, then I'm all for kicking those idiots' asses.

I think the protest are only restricted to non-politically motivated protest, anything political they definitely will disallow it.

Even Worker's Party anniversary cycle at East Coast Park was rejected with lame reasons.

ThEir Action Is Not NeW.

THEIR PURPOSE IS TO IRRITATE AND CHALLENGE THE GOVT WITH THE PURPOSE OF FINDING FAULT WITH THE POLICE IF THE POLICE MISHANDLE THE CASE.

THUS GIVE THEM REASON TO PUT SG GOVT IN THE BAD LIGHT.

NOW THERE ARE SO MANY PROMINENT AND INFLUENTIAL WORLD LEADERS IN SG. IT IS A GOOD CHANCE TO SMEAR THE SG GOVT IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY THE HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP. THEY NEED TO HAVE SOMETHING TO SMEAR AND TALK BAD ABOUT THE SG GOVT.

THE SG GOVT ALSO NOT STUPID. THEY WOULD NOT FALL INTO THEIR TRAP. PROBABLY THE POLICE SENT TO HANDLE THEM HAVE BEEN BRIEFED AND CAUTIONED NOT TO OVER REACT.

THEY HAVE CHOSEN THE CONFRONTATIONAL APPROACH TO CHAMPION THEIR CAUSE.

SO EXPECT THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY ARISES FOR THE OPP.

Is there a case where, you and I, or any member of the public that crosses into a gazetted zone and refuse to obey the instructions of the police to step back, are not arrested, and only known miscreants are arrested?

Would you believe that the PAP gave the police instructions, to arrest only SDP members who cross the line, and not others?

Would any country say "Oh! they are protesting, so temporarily all laws do not apply til the protest is over." Question

Observe the law, even when protesting. Is that too difficult to understand?
