Ok this is just ridiculous. First of all, there are singaporeans that don't understand english. If this wave of hate you propose does take off, do we lynch them too?

Then, there's the fact that we chinese singaporeans are supposed to be acting as the bridge between the foreigners and the locals. Just because you suck at your mother tongue does not mean the rules should change for you. I've never seen a local having difficulty getting help in getting their ideas across to foreigners. Just because you're part of the problem does NOT mean you get to make up solutions.

Finally there's this stupid misguided noble idea of yours to put singaporeans above all else. What is this? War? It's a social problem that YOU can help solve, but refuse to.

some people of short tempers...but I don't think my bro would hold it against a PRC...he'd be really pissed off if it was bad service from a local..I remember a time when we went to Swensons...we had to like wait for 2 hours for service!and these were local waiters and waitresses...when we called they just ignored us..who wants to serve 2 kelings eh?money is money but obviously they were picky about where it comes from..so we just got up and left

This instance was a looooong time ago...When I went back to the same outlet, I think 3 years ago, the service was better..but not by much

Mandarin speaking Chinese have been part of the population of Singapore before its independence!!!

There were Chinese schools and a Chinese university in Singapore before WW2. Chinese High School in Singapore was founded in 1919.

Places cannot be regarded as Chinese outposts, just because the ethnic chinese there speak mandarin, just like places where there are english speaking non-english are not colonies of the great britain, though there are still many people with colonial mentality who regards her majesty the queen their master. For those who champion a singaporean singapore, be reminded that singapore is a multi lingual multi racial society. If you accept that Singapore is a multi lingual and multi racial society, then take note that Mandarin is one of our four official languages, not hokkian, not cantonese.

If you think you are fighting for the rights of the minorities, let me bring your attention to the minorities who don't speak english. Within the peranakan community, there are those who only speak hokkian and malay, no english. Within the chinese community, there are those "chinese helicopters", who studied in chinese schools and speak mandarin and dialects, no english. The poorer singaporeans, especially the old onese, don't speak english.

when these minorities go to restaurants, will they be served with waiters and waitresses who speak mandarin, malay or tamil? why are the menu not in chinese, malay, or tamil? anybody who think he can shout to get somebody to serve him in his language is expressing his lingual superiority, unfortunately, at the same time, he demonstated his lack of tolerance and his poor unbringing. As a truely multi lingual multi racial multi religious society, true singaporeans learn to accept differences. Differences are there because not all of us understand a different race, a different religion, and definitely not all the languages. If you cannot tolerate people who can't speak english, migrate! huhh...but even in UK, Australia, American and Canada, there are many immigrants from China.... Laughing
