SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will relinquish his appointment as Minister for Finance, effective from 1 December.

Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam will be appointed as Minister for Finance, says a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

Mr Tharman will continue concurrently as Minister for Education until after the Budget Debate and Committee of Supply next year, when he will relinquish the appointment and the Prime Minister will make consequential changes to other Cabinet appointments. - CNA/ir

If you don't try to make all these claims about being the world's best and pay yourself world's best salaries then people will just accept any mediocre performance and there will be less criticisms.

But once you claim to be world's best or insist on getting your way and listening to none then it is only natural that people will want them to provide world's class service including getting the world's highest or at least the swiss wages for its people.

Well said Robert. Much is given much is demanded. In Chinese saying "mei na mo da de tou jiu bu yao dai na mo da de mao", if one's head is not big then don't wear big hat. Serve them right, paying themselves world class pay but can't deliver to the satisfaction of the people who feed them, so what is there to defend for this despotic PAP. They are in other words digging their own grave.
