I did not call you Barbarian........my thread was that the North Chinese called the Min-Nan /Hokkien/ Fukien people Barbarians. That's why the word "Min" is = Worms in the Door.

I did not invent this word. The Chinese from the north did.

All I am saying is that the North Chinese viewed the south as Barbarians 2000 years ago.

Things got so bad that Emperor Han Wu-di deported the Min population to Central China. The first "Ethnic Clensing" operation in the world.

The Hokkien dialect preseved more of the ancient tone and the sentence structure than they do in Mandarin.

The reason mandarin is call mandarin it is because it is the lanagauge of the Manchurian combine with the Han langauge. Mandarin is not the orginal lanaguge spoken by the Han people thousand years back.

On the other hand when the han migrate to the min region during the qin dynesty,they bring along their lanaguge. Due to the region is isolated form the turmoil. The Han culture got preserved there. The Hokkien Dialect preserved 7 of the orginal tone of the Han langauge.

So be proud that you are hokkien and try to preserve the langauge.

From your first post to your recent post, you don't sound sincere that you are just stating facts. There is more than meets the eye. Anyone who is smart knows your motive of starting this thread. " Look at it, but just reading this statement you are telling people you are all the way out to flame the hokkien dialect group.

Where do you get info from that teochew and hokkien are related. I don't deny there are similarities between these two dialects.

I believe there is a certain truth that they are related. If you notice, some of the words in these two dialects are similar except that they speak with different tone that is all. For eg, "jiak pa buay?"

I remember reading about it from a book called ‘The Straits Chinese’ where it is told that Hokkiens from Fujien migrated and the language evolved after hundreds of years to become Teochew.Anyway you can check it out with Chinese History Forum

Thanks for your info, anyway I am lazy to read too much of Chinese these days. Teochew has their own villages in China, Thio Yorr, Swatow and so on.
