I agree that when a man is too self-centred, he will never think of the welfare and wellbeing of others but only of his own.

He will continue to put out a lot of his leadership and talent talks to justify his former glory without being bothered with the alarming divorce rates, citizens' brain drain, root cause of falling birth rates, profiteering schemes of HDB and GLCs, delaying retirement CPF payout, rising medical costs etc.

Actually I agreed with what MM Lee said "Making Western media happy is not his business." There is nothing wrong.

In fact he is ONLY interested in making his family and relatives happy and no one else.

His business is to conduct himself transparently since he is taking massive amounts of public money and should give back the money he and his family took and is taking and... get rid of his son in law, the PM's husband for making this type of investment... over and over again...

to behave in an accountable manner and to behave in an honorable manner...

... and that is his business.

The west is constantly critical of Asia's domestic affairs when they are having real serious moral problems back in their own soil.

You don't see Asian press condemning the White Australians for stealing lands and cheating the aborigines. You don't see Asian press criticising that US mofo pilot who erroneously unload bombs in neak luong killing hundreds of innocent civilian during the Cambodia's civil war, and subsequently got off with a 700dollars fine!

The list could go on.....

Why can't the westerners learn to mind their own business, and stop creating havoc throughout the world

Providing a stable country to attract investors is not mutally exclusive to having a more democratic and open environment. just because he only provides the 2 choices of 'making the western media happy' and 'attracting investors due to stability' does not mean we are restricted to these options.

how often has it been that they've managed to take 'parts' of other system to integrate into our own, making it 'uniquely singapore'. it is a matter of choice, and they simply choose to be extremely rigid, using our size and vulnerability as excuses at the same time citing 'flexibility and adaptability' when a 'crisis' strikes.

double standards have regularly been part of our governing practise. and we shouldn't really be surprised anymore by this. and wat is worse, is that we continually vote them into power election after election. so who do we have to blame?

a couple of choices, be a quitter (and like smoking, it should be something u can be proud of... hey we can have double standards too! proud to be a quitter!), vote more COMPETENT opposition into power (which we don't coz we're a generally myopic population), or join the ranks of apathetic singaporeans whom THEY have CREATED, who simply dun care anymore!

The Burmese and the Thais have also held pro-democracy demonstrations except that the Burmese were brutally crushed.

We all have read about demonstrations in Japan, S.Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan, some were rowdy and some were peaceful. Taiwan is a comedy, with brawls in parliament. Did the investors lose confidence in these countries? No!

He must step down and spend more time with his family.

We've not been shy to lecture the West, but we're unable to take criticism.

Let's leave all that talk of comparative development out for a while, and call this pure and simple hypocrisy, because this is what it is.

Singapore has poked her nose in affairs of other nations, telling them how they should run their government, (recently in India), and yet we shy away when criticism is levelled at us.

Mind you, it is not just the Western press. The Asian press have been hard-hitting at times.

This is nothing more than the personal opinion of a politician, and should not be crafted into ruling ideology. He's got his right to say it, we've got our rights to tear his argument apart and find holes as we deem fit.

Are you, as a citizen of Singapore, deprieve of basic human rights like access to education; the right to receive protection from the police; are you able to walk in and out of the house anytime of the day and night without fear of persecution or prosecution??

The western style of democracy will never take flight in Asia. It's way too liberal.
A democracy that's too liberal might just backfire. The higher the democracy level, the more likely a country is going to experience social disobedience

Vandalism on public properties are extremely common in the west. Their citizens simply think that they have the right to everything including spraying grafitti craps on the trains' interior and smashing glass panel with bricks as and when they'd like.

No thanks. I'd never appreciate the kaypohness of western media. I seriously hope that they would just mind their own business, but that's not likely to happen as the news and media business is a big cash cow.
