Young PAP to hold monthly info sessions to reach out to Singaporeans

Channel NewsAsia - Saturday, September 1 SINGAPORE

The Young PAP kicked off its drive to reach out to more Singaporeans with a large-scale information session on Saturday.

The auditorium was packed with those interested in joining the Young PAP fold and they came prepared with questions for Members of Parliament Teo Ser Luck and Liang Eng Hwa.

Mr Teo says: "When I look at the questions that they ask, I find that they have a keen interest to know more, they have a keen interest to want to participate in the activities. Most of them were more concerned about their time and commitment that they need to commit in order to join those activities on the ground."

This is the first of many more dialogue sessions the Young PAP will be organising monthly to reach out to young Singaporeans.

About 200 of them attended the session at the PAP headquarters on Saturday and at least half of them are first timers.

Each of these dialogue sessions will be helmed by an MP. - CNA/ch

It is just another wayang from PAP. The purposes are to soften their tyranny image, to collect info/data and brainwash the youth. I doubt they are really sincere to hear and accept the views of the young people, if they are long ago they would have heard us and accept what we said already.

Perhaps the P-65 MPs havent realised that they might not have much power at all within the PAP..

Some of them are quite passionate about what they do, but they will hit the ceiling at one point or another..

hit a very OLD ceiling... Laughing

I wonder what the public thinks about this aspect ?

It would be really sad if , whether it is their honest reply or not, they do not support the WP holding their own similar events.

Singapore has a long way to go to show the world it is tolerant of alternate views.

Aren't these vice activities a cause of public nuisance that also constitute an illegal assembly? Laughing

How come PAP can hold monthly sessions to people and WP are not allowed to hold bicycle activity? PAP has more right than opposition party or there are two standards for treating different people?

kramnave SG

Its Young PAP recruitment drive. Young WP can always recruit if they want

Trump_Card SG

The difference is one's publicized and the other's not ...

(human) SG

Is there any big differences beween recruitment activity and bicycle activity?

Depends on personal initiative also, i was curious about Young PAP a few months ago so i requested more info on membership. Last month i was invited via email to attend the recently publicised event. I decided not to attend as i reckoned i wouldn’t have the time in future to build houses for villagers in indonesia etc. If one wants to join a political party, one can always apply. Then again, of course PAP would be the much or only publicised one. However, if Young WP manages to get 200-400 potential recruits for its membership drive, it might be publicised as well, you’ll never know.

You never know what extend the controlled media is going to steer by ruling party, you will never know. Laughing

This might be a belated response or afterthought of what I have proposed to Youngpap some one year or so ago - to invite non-conformist people with views different from pap to join youngpap's internal debates with no-hold barred agenda.

Some two years ago, PM Lee and Minister Vivian Balakrishnan have announced that pap would welcome people who were non-conformist to join the party.

In response, as posted in this forum before I wrote to youngpap to ask to be invited to take part in its internal policy debates but I was informed I must first become a member and was asked to contact a certain mp for this purpose. I did what I was told but one excuse was given after another and finally I told them if I was merely interested in debates why should I be subjected to party regulations governing membership.

I wrote to youngpap to be invited for such debates but my request was turned down probably because youngpap or pap was afraid to face a real debate on its policies of which they had no control or prepared answers.

Let's face it, this is a sham debate session and people who were invited were insiders who already know the youngpap members who will only put up a good show and nothing else. If they are interested they should have admitted people who have views to express like some forumers here or elsewhere who have had interest.

Has anyone seen the programme on LKY meeting the young people on CNA? If PAP's way of handling such session has no change, I guess this will just turn out to be the same as the programme on LKY meeting the young people on CNA.
