Singaporeans will whine and rant but thankfully most of them elect
the party that is most able to ensure the continued prosperity of
Singapore. Opposition party members are like many in these forums:
kpkb about everything under the sun but add little value to the
economy.
Another provocation from a
disgruntled loser that has been consistently exposed to be a
'Quack'.
How would you know that participants here are not adding anything
of value to the economy, when we are residents in Singapore ?
Are you contributing anything to the Singapore Economy when you
reside in UK, pay your taxes in UK, contributing the bulk of your
wage to the UK economy, and offering useless little to Singapore in
any form ?
In a society that is purposefully divided by structured
classifications from Primary School to Adulthood - only the
Elitists will defend their own Elitist Group.
You may have hit the nail on the head with your reference to " the
party that is most able to ensure the continued properity of
Singapore''.
Unfortunately, did you bother to find out - 'Whose Singapore' are
you referring to ?
The Singapore Inc that belonged to the Elitist Ruling Party, or the
Singapore that belong to All Singaporean that belonged to the
Working Class ?
The Elitist Ruling Party has already enslaved the Working Class,
and is now going about impoverishing the Singaporean Working Class
in the manner which is institutionalising Capitalism into Public
Services that will be provided by Government Linked
Companies.
The Social Contract promised by the Ruling Party - in the heady
politics of the 1960s - is now broken as it is now subjected to
Market Forces and Capitalist Practices.
Why do you persist in the notion that ''most Singaporeans elected the Party to rule
Singapore'' ?
From a Total Population of 3,608,500 Residents (that include PRs),
the Ruling Party only managed to get only 747,860 votes from a
Total Voting Electorate of 1,222,884 participating citizens.
Can the 747,860 be representative of the hopes and aspirations for
ALL of the 3,608,500 Singaporeans Residents ?
The bulk of Singaporeans from 7 GRCs did not even get to
participate in the election proces, with this 7 GRCs holding
together 37 Parliamentary Seats out of a 84 seat Parliament. This
means that 44% of Parliamentary Seats were uncontested, with the
MPs simply walking into Parliament to claim their seats when they
are NOT
ELECTED by their constituents.
It would have been interesting to see how many valid votes the MPs
would have received - even when they are unopposed in those seven
contested GRCs with 37 Parliamentary Seats.
As matters stand, the Ruling Party saw its popular votes slipped by
- 8.69%, while the Workers' Party saw an increase to its popular
votes of +13.30%; and the SDP only saw a -4.04% reduction in votes
received of (which is lesser by a smaller percentage drop compared
to the PAP ).
If the Election 2006 is to be reviewed the following
data will be quite revealing:
Total Population - June 2006 census :
3,608,500 (including PRs)
Total Voting Electorate: 1,222,884
Total Valid Vote Cast: 1,123.000
Spoilt Votes: 26,727
Did not vote: 97,000
PAP received 747,860 votes:66.6% -8.69%
WP received 183,604 votes:16.34% +13.30%
SDA received 145,902 votes: 12.99% +0.98%
SDP received 45,634 votes: 4.07% -4.04%
On Nomination Day, seven GRCs totalling 37 Parliamentary Seats out
of 84 seats remained uncontested.
