Yeah her boss's only reason (if it is even considered one) is that she should wait for the big boss to come into the office at 4pm. As in, the ang moh manager's manager.

She just called me to tell me she puked her lunch out. She sounded sick, I don't think she's lying to me. If she is, it'd be a 1st. Shocked

IMO pregnancy is more important than a job. She should perform as best as she can at work, but if she needs rest she better take it. Better safe than sorry – it could be just food poisoning now but she won’t know what the problem is next time.

never ask how you know the boss won't allow? just show lah, if don't allow then report to the proper authorities.

Her boss insisted she had to wait for *his* boss to return before she could be let off (even with the MC).

There wasn't much I could do when I went down, but I managed to set my fren up for an interview at another friend's company. See how lah.. Tmr I'll ask her if she's taking action, today let her rest.

No bosses can stop you taking MCs…but nobody can stop your boss from sacking you on the grounds of ‘poor performance’ either. If an employee is always taking MC, other colleagues will complain even if the boss does not mind.

oH yes I remember that ...

When I was in Singapore ,if you have a nursing colleague who calls in sick - the other nurses who are there have to take her patients as an extra load. Once I has to look after 24 patients with only 2 assistant nurses before. I am not joking. And when I cannot finish my work - the nursing officer likes to highlight my poor time management. Poor performance huh?

More than 5 medical sick leave in 3 years mean no promotion unless your daddy is somebody - that was also a general unwritten rule.

I also remembered working with a fever of 40 degrees because the Nursing Officer won't let me go home - she said workload too much and I have to finish it. Now it is different in Singapore after SARs .

Thank god , Australia is different - nurses who call in sick get replaced by bank or agency nurses.

i don't really see anything wrong with complaining about that.

it is really additional burden without benefits to them. normal sickness can be explained by one will get sick too, but pregnancy is a whole new ball game

Ignore the boss and just go home... the boss is angry but deep down he knows that it is only right that she goes home.

He can do that simply because the Unions in Singapore are on the management side and not on the workers side... P*P ensured that.

If your friend can't even stand up for herself when this is clearly within her rights, then she need to change jobs. No point blaming her boss for being mean if she can't fend for herself.
