Syndicate SG ok guys. Elites is always the thing to talk about when such topic is hanging. I know many of netizens around here dont really like PAP. Me too share the same thought. But i've come to a conculsion. 1) At least now in SGP, PAP can bring SG forward and successful if not no point complaining abt them. Admit it, they did a gd job in overcoming SARS and generating jobs for people. IR is a big project that is going to boost SG econs. 2)Compare Oppositon to PAP, the opposition is still not as capable as PAP. You might vote them the winner and the next, SG will crash. Opposition just have to try harder to prove to us that they will do a job at least as good as PAP. 3)I say we're lucky in a way or another but not in a whole. Lucky we dont exp floods as terrible as msia. We dont have hurricane like in US. Look at taiwan govt n ours, which do u prefer. Taiwan is so unorganised in the parliament house whenever they got conflict. Among ASEAN countries, we're the youngest and can say we r the most successful among all. 4) Why do you think MNCs want to invest in SG? Save,Stable and Secure. That shows how much PAP have contribute. Going overseas and have regular meetings with other country's ministers to have close links. somehow, we're lucky in one way or another but not the luckiest.
ShutterBug SG I do agree that we (as well as our gov) are indeed VERY lucky in that we don't have to face any natural disasters such earthquakes, tsunamis, or tornados/typhoons. If we do... I think it would make it hard for our gov to hoard money as they are doing now...
lionnoisy SG 1.Join CSJ seminar lah or his personal party! It's like saying there's no need to work to reduce crime as long as it is under a quota. Let's say there are 500 robberies in JB every week, as long as there are 499 robberies in Singapore we can be considered lucklier... which is pretty much nonsense. Also by that "lucky" logic we can conclude that when I see Cystaire being robbed and realize it's just the 458th robbery I can pretty much ignore it as we are still considered "lucky."2.Dunt truth the manipualted figures fr SG and MY.Ask your fren, relatives and colleagues thenu know the crimes rate.
4getmenot SG luckiest? maybe... happiest? nope... recent survey indicate that the Vietnamese who are far more poorer and behind in terms of economy than Singapore is much more happier and satisfied...
dreamykite SG Our governement are paid so highly, their people are just so poor and overly stress for performance.
eyebuzz SG The Turkey is a funny bird, His head goes wobble wobble. But all that he can ever say, Is Gobble, Gobble, Gobble.
lionnoisy SG Luck just plays 1 %. SG can stand up and needed not crawl back to JB because the leaders Find out the problems or forecast them, list out all the options and pick up the most appropriate policy and DO IT WITHOUT FEAR AND FAVOUR, even the policy is very unpleasant. 1.Like NS,CPF,HDB racial restriction,COE,ERP. All are not welcome. But we have to see the overall result of each policy and the overall results of ALL POLICIES. There are not perfect policy, just the best policy which is even not welcome. We carve our fate 2.SG was lucky to choose the right options in critial policy. We were advised by foreign big consultans to upgrade Paya Lebar International Airport instead of building new one in Changi. Paya Lebar International Airport --drop it Build it We were also told to build up bus network for mass transport system instead of heavy rail like MRT. Drop it Build it How luck we are not listening to them!!(Read LKY books then u know)

banzie SG No lah USA is the luckiest people is the world… the TS should walk down brooklyn in NYC alone and see how lucky the people are…. There is free speech everywhere… when you don’t like someone simply shoot him.. Their poor drunkard need beer the government will take taxpayers money to pay for their habit… isn’t USA the luckiest people in the world?
banzie SG Haiti is small too leh….. Fuji Island is small too leh… there are many more smaller country… I wonder what makes SG different…
banzie SG Originally posted by eyebuzz: STOP AT TWO; FOREIGN TALENTS MORE THAN WELCOME How about you for a start had 5 children.... then if we got more people like you we don't need FT... Oh I forgot the elitez in SG are escaping the country... So what next? uses our sch drop out to fill the elitez jobs?
kilua SG For those who argue that Singapore has good management, i would agree to some extent. Singapore is indeed good in logistic, law and order and things that are tried and tested. But i think a "wise ruler", "enlightened philospher- King" is only a myth - we are but humans and are only good in certain areas. Which Leader in Singapore can lead NTUC into a carrefour? If we had many leaders with good business acumen coupled with Temasek funding, we should be able to dominate world markets like Nokia in Finland. Its because of the lack of good ideas/creativity and good businesses that the capital are not used to fund local companies but overseas ones. Singapore is poor on producing research that contributes to economy. This is something we sure could learn from our neighbors that have fighting in parliament. If we continue to suffer from the all encompassing wise ruler syndrome, our neighbors would surely overtake us in years to come.
dreamykite SG if these people are really foreign talents, why didnt their own mother nation retain them? Why must they seeking outside their country? They are not consider a talent in their country that’s y they seek out..
Lowclassman SG Well said...these are exactly what I'm thinking. Only good in squeezing local breed singaporeans.
spinsugar SG I couldn't agree more. Singapore must 1st learn to open up to criticism from within.. the "one wise ruler" is backdated in today's world and only serves to hold us back. If the Singapore govt acknowledges mistakes of the past, learns from them and moves on.. then our country stands a chance to truly become world class. However, if our leaders instead decide to continue channeling their efforts towards silencing and stunting the growth of its people in order to maintain the "status quo" (read: retain power), we are heading towards disaster. Should we go down the latter, short-sighted path, I deeply suspect that it is not an invading force which will cause the collapse of our nation.. but our own selves.
Cystaire SG Nope, you didn't quite catch my main point. Nor did the other posters in the past three pages. I could have said Singaporeans are the luckiest people in the world to have a good government and stopped there. But I didn't. That second part is my point.
eyebuzz SG me five children, where got dole; btw sch dropouts r late bloomers, however, the reality is the elites hoard their positions...
apples SG Life in Singapore is definitely comfortable but not necessarily a happy one. I would say things come too easy for most Singaporeans. I also agree with Justice Bao on his comparison with Johor and Batam. A country is shaped by events and decisions that are largely decided by the government. Demographics here wouldn't have affected so much as to how very close neighboring countries differed so greatly. Back to Singaporeans are lucky is true but we are not necessarily the happiest. It is same to say that a rich person is not necessarily happier than a poor person. Because Singaporeans are rich, we also have the problems typical of rich ppl. E.g. A lot of money and assets to manage, have to obtain a high level of knowledge and skills, not as easy to be satisfied, etc... Rich Singaporeans have a busy and stressed lifestyle which is very similar to Hong Kong. However, for me, I rather live simpler lifestyle that is not so stressed and yet I can survive pretty ok with. And don't u guys have similar notions?
