I only saw Derek Wee's comment and the Miss Wee's reply to his
comment. So, I'll only comment on the information I have gathered
so far.
I must praise Mencius. He is able to see this incident to happen in
real life about 2300 years ago. He said these in his book
Mencius:
Your dogs and swine eat the food of
men, and you do not make any restrictive arrangements. There are
people dying from famine on the roads, and you do not issue the
stores of your granaries for them. When people die, you say, "It is
not owing to me; it is owing to the year." In what does this differ
from stabbing a man and killing him, and then saying -- "It was not
I; it was the weapon?" Let your Majesty cease to lay the
blame on the year, and instantly from all the nation the people
will come to you

So our dear Miss Wee blame Derek for his incompetent (the
year as stated by
Mencius) for being afraid to lose his job rather than looking at
the whole picture.
Confucius, Analects
"When you have faults, do not fear to abandon them."
Pertaining to MP Wee's statement, I know it's a nature for parents
to love their children and also contain all the children's
mistakes, so we should forgive his love for his child. But I can't
forgive him for his failing to educate a member of the
society.
A society is made of many individuals. No individual can control
another's thoughts, but every individal is responsible for his /
her words / actions. (It can be "controlled", tho
) No one can point fingers to any parent's teaching
method. But all in the society can point their fingers to
individual in the society to correct their behaviour.
As for the poor man incident, I personally dun think Mdm Ho Geok
Choo should resign or get the sack from anyone as long as she is
willing to learn from this incident and continues to serve the
constituency well, I think we should cut some slacks.
