Do you mind sharing your view on the following issues:

1. In waiving of estate duty, where should the revenue shortfall be met? Why waiving of estate duty seems to be quite an important issue?

2. Should the posts below PM (i.e. DPMs, ministers, MOS, etc) be opened up to FTs? Maybe qualified FTs can do the jobs equally well but at a lower rate.

From wat u stated under the heading of this thread that do we need to pay more for S'porean lecturers than those from India and China? My son and me both graduated from NUS in 1982 and 2005 respectively,but we dont understand whether u know of our Uni Admin system in Spore or not?,NUS pays lecturers,tutors and professors depended on their qulificatios,knowlege, and experiance etc regardless of their nationality.

If u dont mind,can u tell me yr full name by pte massage 2 establish yr real profession?

Frankly, whoever believes that official statistics are the gospel truth, need to read up on what is called media management and organised response mechanisms, not to mention how spin doctors work in conjunction with something called the OSA to ensure people who have no “business” (i.e folks like you and I) do not probe too much.

Are Singaporeans not already paying for higher costs to have the essential services provided by local businesses and industries - all owned by pseudo-Private Companies that are nothing more then cleverly disguised GLCs ?

Many foreign interested parties have been dissuaded to enter the local market to provide services, as these foreign interested parties will be required to have local participation from GLCs - who will plant their representatives in the Board and Executive Management - interfering in the daily management of such enterprises.

We could have enjoyed more competitive rates of telecommunication - that include Broadband Services, and yet the introduction of higher standard of services with superior features are kept at bay, with the existing 'state owned' enterprises 'raping the pockets' of Singaporeans.

To pick one example - why are Singaporeans paying for higher charges to get only a narrow range cable-vision services, when our Third World neighbors are paying far lesser amounts for direct satellite reception to a wider range of entertainment programmes ?

This is only one out of the many other businesses that are presented as 'supposed choices' to Singaporeans - and Singaporeans are suppose to be grateful for such advanced services.

Starhub has admitted that they had made Millions $ from the world cup live telecast,Furk all these dogs are still barking up the wrong trees and claimed that in order to reduce cost of living hve to cut tax etc.

Shame on Stupid S'poreans including my sons who insisted on paying extra costs for these live telecasts when all these are provided for in Malaysia etc f.o,c to Astro subsc. Brunei and Indon even live telecast the matches for free.

S'pore indeed a first world country to fool us ard and making millions $

It contributes towards the government's tax revenue, which is used for spending on Singapore's economic and social development.

A number of reliefs are available to businesses and individuals. For example, stamp duty relief is currently granted for both transfers of assets between associated companies and amalgamation of companies. In Budget 2005, PM and Minister for Finance announced that the stamp duty above $50 will be remitted so as to provide relief for bona fide aborted transactions. In Budget 2003, it was announced that leases with annual rents not exceeding $1,000 would be exempted from stamp duty from 1 Apr 2003.

Not surprising actually. Many are against hiring foreign workers but they would happily enjoy the benefits of cheaper goods and services provided by these foreign labour.

Well, those who would remain oblivious to the challenge of emerging economies and content with blaming the government for their own outmoded skills can only have themselves to blame when their children become maids for Chinese bosses.

Stamp Duties is only one out of a string of Direct and Indirect Taxes that Government depend on for its Revenues.

However, with ARTIFICIALLY INFLATED LAND COST dictated by the Government, and with this cost being further inflated to an even higher vaue with the imposition of Stamp Duties - this has resulted in the present day skewered Real Estate Values that has blown into a huge artificial bubble that affect all aspects of Singaporean Life.

Stamp Duties is an out-dated form of revenue collection and require the least effort and cost to administer - amidst a wide phletora of direct and indirect tax schemes that have already inflated the Singapore Reserves.

However, the Stamp Duty - and the other forms of Taxes - can be manipulated to help improve or moderate all basic costs that snowball into the High Cost of Living in Singapore.

With an extensive modern tax and revenue collection system that has blown up our National Reserves, is there a need to impose Stamp Duties that places additional burdens to the Basic Costs to Singaporeans ?

It is surprising that a person who has received a 'Professional Doctor' qualification, can harbor such racist thoughts - "outmoded skills can only have themselves to blame when their children become maids for Chinese bosses" ?

Chinese bosses - you mean wealthy Singapore Chinese, Malaysian Chinese, Hong Kong Chinese, Thai Chinese, Indonesian Chinese ?

If Foreign Talents from the First World Countries can lead the way to work as Butlers in Asia - Caucasian Butlers serving wealthy Japanese, why are you deriding another profession that is seen to be as professional as that of a Doctor, or an Engineer ?

Tax revenues for the first half of 2006 have increased beyond the wildest imagination of the IRAS; and is expected to DOUBLE by end-2006.

GST collected during first half 2006
compared to same period in 2005 : increased by +24.6 per cent

Stamp Duty collected during first half 2006
compared to same period in 2005 - increased by +63.3 per cent

Estate Duty collected during first half 2006
compared to same period in 2005 - increased by +49.7 per cent

By reviewing or even cancelling out Stamp Duty or Estate Duty altogether, it does not affect Government Revenue in any major way, as there are other newer sources of revenues that the Government has created, which has brought larger amount of revenues than these two forms of taxes.
