Assuming that there is no disagreement that we must protect our
citizens against drugs and that being a sovereign state we have the
right to have our own laws and punishments, can we reasonably and
objectively discuss:-
(1) Is death penalty on runners or pawns an effective way to
control drugs
(2) After some many years of harsh punishments against drug
trafficking, have we succeeded in curbing drug or are we just
sending only more and more drug runners to the gallow ad
infinitum.
(3) Is there a more effective way to curb drugs e.g. boycott or
sanction of drug producing countries or international joint
operations against drug lords.
(4) If the majority of countries abolish death penalty will that
lead problems among citizens as well as relations with other
countries due t differences of treatments of drug offences as we
are currently witnessing in the Nuyen case.
(5) Should nations work towards adopting more common punishments
for crimes and drugs offences?
If our leaders claim to be world class, should they not work
towards resolving such obvious contradictions in our laws.
