At the peak of the recession, older workers have been willing to work in alternative jobs, with retraining given - but some of those jobs have been occupied by FOREIGNERS.

A finance manager after having been retrenched, decides to take on a new career path in the hotel industry - looking after the conditions of the guest rooms. Surely his years of experience as a senior manager will at least allow him to occupy any vacant seat in the Hotel Management that looks after the Guest Rooms.

In our current tight labor market, where workers exceed available jobs, those jobs in the hotels are occupied by foreigners.

Similar jobs that a local can perform better with local knowledge are taken from Singaporeans.

More often then not, the older workers have been very professional in their positive attitude and have been flexible with the demands imposed on them.

It is those who are comfortably employed, and are smug in their attitudes about employing the older workers with their bias and prejudiced views that are less then professional in handling the job application from these older workers.

How often have we heard smug comments that the older workers "are not willing to learn and some have attitude problems" ?

Those who can speak so unprofessionally in this manner - about older workers - have actually revealed a high degree of insecurity on the part of the speaker.

Is it any wonder that with a smoked Salmanic brain like yours that keep you perpetually running in circles, you can only adopt the bias and prejudiced attitude towards older workers Question Rolling Eyes

Thats just my experience with older workers. Lots of attitude problems. I blame the govt for spoiling them. Nothing unprofessional on my part.

I prefer locals anytime. Never hired foreigners before.

Gotta make business work and make profit man. If the senior worker sabo I just cannot accept lah. I treat young workers the same and it seems younger people are not so stubborn. Basically I am fair to all and I respect elders.

I have seen how Americans work. They are professional even when they are close to retiremen. Perhaps its because they have a more mature economy with better work ethics. There's something I noticed about singaporeans and its that once a guy hits 30 plus, he seems to be less interested to learn and more focus on playing politics.
Basically, I think Singaporeans are too pampered.

Are there good senior workers? Yes! I am impressed with some and I think we are slowly and surely getting there as a whole country in the midest of global competition. If only we stop all this whining culture, it will be faster.

I am always very fair, as always and I criticise anything and anybody whom did what I feel is no good.

The govt has made such a blunder making Singapore such a comfortable place in order to attract investors and votes, it made singaporeans soft and whining. Thats the biggest mistake of PAP.

the result is that we have a bunch of old workesr who are not adaptable, arrogant and young people like you who whine more than anything. That I think is the biggest problem facing Singapore today.

Have you even have an iota of how the other half of Singapore try to scrape a living out of almost nothing, compared to your own safe environment perched in some ivory tower, and viewing the world with a condescending attitude ?

Not to worry - every Dog has Its Day, the circle runs a full turn, you will get your just dessert, retribution comes in the same manner that you treat others - it is all about KARMA.

Boils down to one thing, your position is safe and secure, and put into position by all the pampering from the hard work of your parents; and you cannot appreciate how the other Singaporeans - who have labored but could not get out of their vicious cycle of constant running to catch up in Life.

I don't think its the govt's fault. Govt cannot micro manage businesses and cannot be expected to subsidise businesses.

Exhorbitant? Just because they cannot pay for rent? so why others can? You want to help them cook better wanton noodles?
