And private bus companies haven't even changed their fares for 10 years!!!

SBS and SMRT should be able to survive with low fares and not having to increase them just because "they haven't increased in a while now". What the hell is that?! They are ones who have the economies of scale, and if the provate companies din't increase fares for 10 years and we don't see them b!tch about it, I don't see why the those 2 Fuckers have to.

i hate it when they use reasons like "Singapore is one of the country with the lowest public transport fare" and "The last time we increase the transport fare is xxx years ago to justify their need to increase the fare.

In singapore, Pubic companies (ministries included) are run like private firms ie maximise shareholders interests & return on investments. Just look some cases reported that the medical treatment at resturtured hospitals are ven more expensive than private ones! Sad

From what I see now...

The 10c increase given everytime is to disencourage ppl from paying cash... As they need to collect the cash everynight and need ppl to sort it out...

No reason still for them to go up 10c when only 1 operator is asking... And that SMRT, "We are happy that the card paying passengers are subsidised by the increase of the cash paying fares"

All of us don't go Orchard Rd. since ERP will be increased.

They should build more aircon underground pedestrian crossing like Citilink esp for Takashimaya/ Paragon junction & Centrepoint area.
This will reduce the no. of traffic lights so traffic will be smoother.
Also frequency of MRT/ buses should be increased so pple don't have to drive.

if possible, do walk instead of taking the bus if the distance is not long, example 1, 2 bus stops away. can save our very very hard earned money at the same time exercise.

I don’t think a 10cents increase in cash fares is justified. Because charging $5 for a bloody card in which they had a failed investment isn’t.

Actually I do that. I walk two busstops everyday. Good exercise, plus the scenery's good and nature is beautiful. When your rights have been constantly deprived, you learn to be anti-social like me and turn to everything non human instead.

me too. i walk everyday to the MRT station to go to work. it's 2 bus stops away. Wink actually sometimes it's faster to walk instead of taking the bus. cos most of the time, the bus take super long to come. Neutral Confused u might already reach your destinaction by the time the bus comes. Laughing

Yup I have the same feeling too! When I walk, at least I'm in control of my speed. I can control time better. Even if you get the bus, you can't make the bus driver go faster than his snail's pace. Incidentally I drive even slower cuz I'm scared. Smile

I must say, wages is just 1 portion to operating cost. ERP, petrol, insurance cost are also other portions.

Yup,even western countries also never go to such an extreme that the gap between the rich n the poor are so wide as in Singapore.As a matter of fact,their workers association is much more powerful than ours.Thus,the workers salary can keep up with the cost of living in their countries.

I beg to differ...the whole idea of the transport system going public is basically wrong. If there is no competition among the transport operators...due to "no duplication of resources policy", then why has 2 operators when one will do?

When's the last time you choose between buses when the only logical thing to do is to take the one that comes first?

Just have a single non-profit transport company (privately or government controlled). Hence fares will increase to meet the rising operating cost, (oil, bus drivers' wages etc). In that way, who'll complain?

Ladies and gentleman,

Let me tell u 1 thing. Don't talk so much. I have keep on think & think, whether I'm rich or poor should I still live here?
I got alot of friends in overseas, my friends had ask me to move don't stand. They are from different country moving to another country. I met them when I travel for work. If they can make a living. Why can't I???
First ask why they left, it's a stuipd question. Of causes In seach of a better home! This does not come easy, they had a hard time for their future better home. But now they make it.
I'm still thinking......should I, is this place a home for my future generation??? I guess a lot of our young generation have came in mind of this question.

Do buses in London have to pay tolls when entering the city centre? Anyone knows?

Recently, I read an article about the possibility of tolls being implemented on busy motorways near urban centres in UK (Birmingham and Manchester areas). One person was quoted as saying that taxes on car usage are fair, but not taxes on ownership. He rounded off by saying the objective of tolls should be to ease congestion, NOT collect revenue.

I think excise payments on cars should be reduced, as this can be quite ex, and the extension of ERP to more areas will only worsen the situation.
