You are entitled to your opinion but i do not think it is
logical to say that NEL's greater frequency is motovted by any real
competition concerns.
Like i said, there can be many reasons for NEL providing a better
service, and competition with SMRT is a very unlikely reason.
I listed 2 possible reasons in my last reply. I table another
suggestion now: SBS is simply not as efficient a company as SMRT.
By providing more trains than are needed, it is not maximizing its
profits.
Why i think that their better servie stds cannot logically be
attributable to competition with SMRT:
They are pandering their services in 2 completely different
markets. In order to decide if the operators are operating in the
same relevant market, we ask the hypothetical qn of: Will a price
increase of 5-10% by one operator cause significant nos. of
commuters to switch operators? The answer must be no.
Like i said before, the points of origins and destinations of
consumers are for the most part constant; Commuters have to go to
work, and they have to go home. I doubt we will have large nos of
commuters that are willing to sell their homes simple coz eg. NEL
increase its prices by 5-10%.
