Dreamz FM vs Sun Yanzi

last SG · 2001-12-17T12:41:00+00:00

Whatever politics going on behind the MTV Asia awards, I'm just delighted that A*mei prevailed.... A*mei wan sui! Stefanie won as expected, but she start...

Zilchster SG

Yah…as she is based in taiwan…the taiwanese would wanna grab her…but hey she is a true blue singaporean girl! We can’t let the taiwanese people lay claim to her.

lindgal SG

i've just casted my vote the other day.. juz wondering... are we allowed to vote more than once?

at my time of voting, dfm vs syz was i tink 26.8% to 52%..... i guess all of us (incl dfm) know that the award will go to sun yan zi (and she deserves it) but i guess what is most impt now is.... what would the margin be like?

Zilchster SG

I wun have any idea...but i tink the margin would be around 10% or more...but it's something we would never find out.

I know that Sammi has a wide lead over kelly and andy lau in HK...whilst in Taiwan...mayday is leading by abt 1 to 2%...

ocean11 SG

I think only one vote is allowed from each PC... same like other such questionnaire-related sites where voting from individual PCs can be tracked.

The Yanzi-Dreamz race would have been a lot closer if they allow only fans from Spore to vote only. I won't be surprised if many of Yanzi's fans from Taiwan voted for her too. Her "win" is a foregone conclusion right from the start.

Not that I have anything against Yanzi. She's probably a nice person, but after watching her recent hour-long interview on mtvchinese.com, I think success has gone to her head a bit. Or maybe she's just plain tired...

Zilchster SG

What was the interview about? I am kinda curious to know...

Well...since the voting is on the website...so i guess it's open to all to vote...they also can't check if u r from sg or from elsewhere...besides we r allowed to vote in taiwan etc...

But do u tink dreamz fm are more deserving of this award? Not really lar...and would it be a big embarrassment to Sun if she did not win this one...i dun have anything against dreamz...but popularity stakes? Still far...if u r talking abt...compositions...and shi li...dreamz fm...definitely is slightly better off...at least sun is improving???

A sad thing is...HOW COME DREAMZ FM song cannot move into top 10 of yes933...very sad...even if it stays there 2 weeks also good mah...feel upset.

i'm just wondering.... the reason they won't let us see the voting results, is it really becos they want to let the "announcement of the winners to be a surprise" as they had claimed, or..... *leave it to your own imagination, yah? Razz *

ocean11 SG

Yanzi has won so many awards already so I think she can afford to lose to this, but of course she won't lose. It's not really a matter of who deserves to win more. Just that it would be a bigger boost to Dreamz if the margin was much closer. Too bad they're not hearthrob material, otherwise they would have a broader fan base.

You can catch the hour-long Yanzi interview at http://real2.aboutmedia.com.tw/ramgen/MTVChinese/smil/010111.smi
Tell me what you think.

Zilchster SG

Actually, all the more she can't lose this awards...would be total losing of face...

She is no 1 on the rias chart...or at least within the top 5 with album sales...dreamz...sadly to say...so how can sun lose out...

Yah...i agree abt them not being dashing and swooning enuff...somehow is is quite fair isn't it???? they have good voices...etc etc...

Anyway a margin of 10% is considered quite good...they should be thankful enuff...considering STELLA should be more pop than dreamz...as well as tanya or kit?

lindgal SG

actually, i’m quite surprised that kit and tanya were lagging so far behind (well, at least that was when we could still see the results)..... i mean, didn’t really expect it to be dreamz fm that would be the one leading second behind stef sun…. i guess that alone should be a moral booster for dfm…..

Zilchster SG

Well...moral boost...yah...but voting this kinda thing...can't be taken too seriously...the best measurement...actually there isn't...but i tink album sales should do that...

Kit...well...haven't heard from her too long...she only had one concert...tatz all...tanya...well...she is more recognised as a composer...

ocean11 SG

Yeah, I too was surprised that Kit and Tanya were soo far behind.
On hindsight, the organisers should not have revealed the polling results right from the start... should at least have element of surprise. The Singapore contest is more of an anti-climax, at least the Taiwan one is more exciting.... could be a nail-biting finish.

lindgal SG

maybe they also discovered their mistake....
too late....

Zilchster SG

Taiwan one...

I think Wu Bai and Elva Hsiao are clearly OUT!!!

Jay Chou might pull off a surprise...

But the real race now is between Mayday and Ah Mei...

The best selling albums in taiwan for the 2nd half:
1) Sun Yanzi's KITE
2) Jay Chou's FANTASY
3) Mayday's REN SHENG HAI HAI
4) F4's METEOR RAIN

It was reported that Sony was kinda disappointed with F4 sales...they were hoping for 300,000 but it fell short of the mark.

ocean11 SG

If Mayday wins, will they be able to perform? I thought they have already disbanded for the time being? And I agree that Jay may just pull of a surprise.

Yanzi's Kite sales is tops in second half of year? Maybe it's becos it was released earlier than the rest in the list. I'm glad she's doing so well (from a 'nationalistic' point of view) but I'm still a little surprised at how well she's been received in Taiwan. Her vocals are quite unique, but surely not quite up there in the A-list. I think her main selling point is her charm and broad appeal. Her new album "Start" will reportedly have 5 Mandarin songs and 5 English songs sung by other singers. Among them are the evergreen ganlanshu (Fei Xiang has also included this song in his latest album) and songs by Tori Amos and Alanis Morisette. Jacky Cheung's album of English songs was a big flop, but it's unlikely to be the case for her.

Zilchster SG

Eeeeeeeekks...i dun like it when singers start singing covers...dun tell me her producers are at their wits end?

Not only yanzi...even grace zhou hui...third album would be covers of some old songs...

ocean11 SG

Apparently they rushed out this album in preparation for her regional concerts next March. So that fans can snap up the new album, learn the songs, and sing along with her at the concert. What I think is that Warner is just cashing in on her red-hot popularity. Even if the album is of mediocre standard, it will probably still see like hot cakes. Not that I'm pre-judging the album.... just that she's on a roll at the moment. Her "real" album comprising original compositions is due only next April.

I think it's kinda expected that she will do an album of covers at some point, but didn't think it would be this soon in her career.

b|ueapp|ez SG

it was reported (from warner music) that the people yanzi wanted to thank are all in the new album "start". All the 10 songs selected do haf some special meaning 2 yanzi. eg. Faye's tian(1) kong(1) was the first ever mandarin cd tt she bought, and gan(2) lan(3) shu(4) was the song tt brought her 2 sleep when young (her lullaby) etc...

if not wrong, her my desired happiness and kite were the best selling albums 4 the first and second-half of the yr in tw.

way 2 go, stef!~~~

Zilchster SG

yah…it is a bit soon…to come out with a cover of other albums…

blueeve SG

erm… I’m a Dreamz FM fan, and i too believe that they aren’t having enough fans yet… If they are to compete with Sun Yanzi, definitely they’ll be on the losing side. But i think in time, ppl will gradually recognize Dreamz FM’s talents… and appreciate and even fall in love with their music… As times move on, ppl’s taste and mentality will change… So we’ll see, shan’t we?
