About the increment of a particular bus model at a depot, this
means they are doing fleet standardization, which is a good thing
as this enables operators to purchase materials in large quantities
and enjoy cost savings as a result; economies of scale.
After all, isn’t the Loyang package single decker buses already
100% Citaro?
If the depots tend to operate only a single model of bus type,
actually it’s a good thing, for the reason I have stated above -
because they would reap economies of scale.
On that note, I would like to mention that there’s a possibility
that SBS Transit could be using all-MAN buses for the Seletar
package bus routes, so as to reap economies of scale. Nonetheless,
this remains to be seen, and we will only know whether they operate
only MAN buses when the package is implemented next year.
Economies of scale is a heavily used term, so I shall just write
the definition here, once and for all,
Economies of scale: To buy in large quanties to enjoy cost
savings, as the cost is spread over a large quantity.
