TBH, personally, I feel that there may be one more new bus depot
at Jurong, for Tuas and Joo Koon areas. Joo Koon will contain up to
around nine bus services, which means around one hundred and eighty
buses. Tuas may contain around five to ten eventually, which means
around one hundred to two hundred buses. When combined, there would
already be around two hundred and eighty to three hundred and
eighty buses.
Furthermore, with Jurong Lake District coming up, they already
say there will be new bus services. I do not think Soon Lee Bus
Depot alone is able to handle the number of buses at Jurong Lake
District, Jurong Industrial Estate and Tuas, when they are
eventually developed.
I feel that they may want to take this opportunity to
re-organise the bus routes in Jurong (East, West, Industial Estate,
Tuas). They may want to develop a regional bus interchange where
long-distance routes (eg. 30, 154, 198, 157, 174, etc.) would
terminate, residential trunk routes (longer than feeder) provide
the "first and last" connection from the regional bus interchange
to the residential areas of Jurong East and Jurong West, bypassing
Boon Lay and Jurong East bus interchanges, while the BNL and JE bus
interchanges provide the short feeder routes and perhaps just some
trunk routes.
While this reduces route duplication, it (especially the
residential trunk routes I suggested in the above paragraph) could
enhance the bus transport connectivity in Jurong. Besides, it need
not be a standalone bus interchange. It could be sited together
with a future JRL or/and CRL station.
But the location... they should study all possible locations
thoroughly and select the best possible location (utlisises the
least resources and has the most benefits) to site the regional bus
interchange.... Personally, actually, I feel that Jurong East could
be the regional interchange..... alternatively,.... Tengah is a
good candidate for central regional bus interchange....
actually, the really long-term solution is to have another EWL
at Jurong... apparently, that will be Cross Island Line... but CRL
does not go to the city.
nonetheless, what they could do is to have long-distance express
routes that only stop at a few main bus stops along a very very
long route. While it can be a short-term solution, it can also be
long-term.
In short, they should really review and revamp the entire bus
network in Jurong.
