You are thinking too far out. Right now, TS is only a student,
that makes his gf a student too. Do you seriously think that a
student plan things so far out for example, marriage? If a student
are materialistic now, chances are not because of the marriage part
but some other reasons.

give you something even better to worry about - global warming. Why
not get your ass away from the computer now and start helping out
