really really very sorry if my thread makes you really unhappy.
i think i indicated that it is my own personal opinion and that is through my own experiences.
i am glad you replied, you came from a teochew family and your family members are truly nice people so that shows that my assumption are wrong and there are still truly nice teochews around.

i myself i have come across teochews who are nice also.

the 3rd generation of teochews in my family, my cousins all that grew up to be really nice people.
kind, gentle, soft spoken, humble, won't hurl vulgarities that kind of people.

as a pure teochew and coming from a big extended teochew family, i have to disagree with the threadstarter.

as far as i can see, my entire extended family is very nice n easy going, if a bit conservative. But certainly nowhere to the extent of the threadstarter's family.

It IS very offensive that threadstarter attributes it to being teochew. I hate to admit it, but I feel like using some vulguarities myself with regards to how some people paint their family shortcomings to being any dialect group.

dialect group huh.. dying out. my mom used to say dat about teochew too. and hakka for something else.. noisy is it? she complains about everything. o well, im juz happy my parents are still around.

i can't even remember how its called.. hokkchia or something. Laughing im not closed to my relatives on mother's side, used to be when i was very young but not any more. unlike you, i have no idea how this "extended" family works or feels like. when parents dead, im on my own.

my father's side is a big blank null. he is canto, but no relatives, all dead or something. i can't speak either languages now. wld u like that?
