300 and 302 need 9 units each,800 need 4,806 need 9,811 need 7,812 need 6

900 and 901 need 4 each,903 need 8,912 need 10 and 913 need at least 9..Thats 79 units after 804 & 911..Each depot need at least 3-4 spare units..101 units just so-so..

Expect more A22s, and Citaros and KUBs to be used in future for these feeder services in futur, after the last 40 bendy buses are scrapped.

With the influx of Citaros and A22s, and probably more single deckers in the coming years, there is probably going to have a fleet increase for these services, mainly to increase the frequencies of these feeders which is comparable to SBS Transit feeders.

And not to mention, new services to be introduced to spread out the loads to these new services, but providing new links with these new services.

deploy DD on those WDL/CCK/YIS feeders loh... SMRT say that bendies more suitable for feeders, but LTA will taking over all the assets and doing the purchase/deployment from 2016. so if LTA want to put DD on YIS/WDL/CCK feeders, SMRT (as a operator) also LL must deploy mah...

As lemon said.. now that LTA is going to own all buses.. I think this batch of A24s is the last bendy batch... Singapore will see in a long long time... Very soon I expect DDs to start on SMRT feeders/intra-towns.

Anyway 983 that behaves like a feeder has taken very well with DDs... in fact now you can see 983 packed and upper deck doing well... 301 on the other hand has failed to attract many pax.. ofcourse this is in comparison to 300 and 983... 301 still gets goor 30-40 pax but 983 gets around 80-90 pax in peak hours (more than double).

I think the reason why 301 has less pax than 300 and 983 is because 300 and 983 ply Ave 4 where the most number of pax lives, but 301 does not. Last time when I took 300, 70% of pax alight at Ave 4... And maybe some Ave 2 residents prefer to take LRT and walk rather than taking 301.

SMRT's point is valid. Bendys perform alot better for feeders because it is more elderly-friendly and more efficient. What's the point of forcing people to go up for just a few stops? Doesnt make sense when space is not really a constraint at the roads where feeders ply. No point just suggesting use of DDs for the sake of using DDs. But in future, with all those MRT stations, most feeders can operate with just SDs so no need worry so much abt bendys or high capcaity buses for feeders. Then DDs can be used for just trunks.

I don't see a reason why more MRT stations will remove the need of DDs and bendies on feeders. In fact, even more high capacity buses will be needed to cater to the demand from the new MRT stations to neighbourhoods.

Simply, you cannot put an MRT station every 400 meters. And you cannot expect everyone to walk from the MRT stations to their home (some 500m, some 1km, some 2km etc). The fact that even short feeders like 225 and 284 survive shows how willing people are to walk all the way back when there's a convenient feeder. Are you really gonna build an MRT station at Bedok North St 3 to replace 225, which adds 2-3 mins of travelling time for other commuters? Don't expect LRTs since LTA has stopped planning any LRT lines for a long time.

And I can tell you, the rate at which LTA is planning the MRT lines is really slow... TEL Thomson part only ready by 2021, East Coast part by 2025, CRL by 2030... And even when these lines can significantly reduce the need of some trunk services, they cannot do so for feeders. Even with these lines, the density of MRT stations is still not enough to have one station in every neighbourhood etc. In most of the towns, buses are still the way to go.

If you really want everyone to take MRT, and wish all those who are taking direct trunk/express/premium services or even driving cars to switch to feeders to transfer to MRT, How can only SDs (rigids) cope with this demand?

For what they plan fast? Wouldn't that means that they have no job? Hahas..unless they got more space to dig..I think S'pore can prepare to introduce Double Decker trains for NSL/EWL to cater to the needs

Our HDBs now are so clustered together..maybe you'll get a LRT running at the 13th floor*(depends on each area) in future..or perhaps cable car..

Lemon1974 will surely disagree over this..But again if SMRT really keen to use bendy for their feeder svc then why order only 40 units?Coming 2016 operators arent allowed to purchase anymore buses..Why not order another 60 units?LTA will surely compensate whatever buses that the PTOs buy before mah

The problem lies with the curent fleet of O405Gs that are still present on the roads. Might be easy to suggest early deregistration and buying new buses but this is being really shallow. Those buses still work well and have a few years of lifespan left so it is definitely not being cost effective to deregister early. It will only cause far hikes. I believe SMRT will place some more orders after the 40 units are delivered so that they can arrive in time to replace MKIIs.

As for LTA side, everyone can see that LTA wants to minimise no. of bendy buses but noone can say for certain if they dont want it at all. They might still purchase some in future for use in feeder routes or routes that are not DD-friendly. I would say they are still very undecided and probably waiting to see how the 40 A24s fair. The answer to why they are not buying any at the moment also probably lies with the existing fleet of O405Gs on the road.

Just some food for thought - LTA wouldnt have approved SMRT's purchase of bendy buses if it wanted to eliminate bendys totally and SMRT wouldnt have purchased 40 units, knowing that LTA wants to eliminate bendys. There's definitely something that doesnt meet the eye because we are not talking abt 2 kids over here.

True... but 983 already has 40-50 pax on the bus on ave 5 itself even before heading to ave 4... if 300 calls before yet 983 will safely reach interchange with around 60-70 pax... if 983 comes first.. for sure people not able to board on ave 4 and will have to wait for 300..

300 loading beyond ave 4 is less than 20 pax... 301 does get good 20-25 pax from ave 2... but not many from ave 5... as people prefer 983 looks like.

Wow.. I am impressed with your statement... good luck climbing up and down... have we become such a lazy country??? Well yes.. go climb one fleet of stairs and get some calories burned and leave the lower deck for oldies.
