Bus service 53 not serving Pasir Ris residents well

I stay in Pasir Ris, and right along Sv 53's route. So I think I can provide some feedback on this issue (although personally, I think she's kicking up a big fuss over something small..)

Anyway, the reason why it's such a problem for the Airport employees, mainly boils down to the fact that their crunch period (eg, their reporting for work timings & end work timings) typically don't fall within the normal Peak Hours of most workers working elsewhere.

And this is a slight problem for many of the Airport-bound svcs (not just Sv 53 actually), because typically, SBST deploys more buses during Peak Hours (the BSEP & BSRF schemes, additional S-shift buses for eg). But the "Peak period" for the CGA workers does not fall within the typical Peak Period of most of us working elsewhere.

So it's super common to see packed Sv 53 buses to & from CGA from 8pm onwards..and this happens typically everyday, including weekends.
And this 8pm-12am block is also the period in which you'll see the 15-20mins waiting time start to appear (the same 20mins wait she mentioned in the article), because quite a few of the S-Shifters go off-service after 8pm, and IIRC, the BSEP ones also.

AM Peak isn't that bad though.

This happens to 27/34/858 too...

So something we can all take is, this type of long hybrid routes like 53 isnt gonna work anymore... Its just gonna cause those at the end of the svc to suffer...

I guess thats what they all say...

I think it is justifiable that Svc 34 is stuck along Ave 7 traffic. So yeah, I can say the reliable service is 27..

As for 53... I think it is also due to traffic congestion.. If let's say all buses are out already towards Changi Airport, there are some of the buses are travelling back to Bishan but got stuck at TPE exit (Loyang Ave/Tampines Ave 7 Exit) as such there is a delay..

Drivers are humans and not robots.. Do consider their breaks.

2c worth, there r really many traffic junctions in Pasir Ris for sv53 route wic affects the scheduling

Aft BSH, bottle neck would b at SGN ctrl, Lorong Ah Soo also adds to delays...

PSR to CGA takes 40/60 mins during peak... Exaggeration?

Probably 35-40min at max. 25min for PSR - Loyang Ave. 10min to CGA T3.

Yes 53 is full mainly, almost all buses leave CGA with standing load.

However to be unable to board? If it happens, its usually cause the driver is late and the subsequent 53 is less than 5min away

Compared to other airport services, i would say 53 is one of the most well managed. As compared to 34/858

858 is, by itself, terrible enough.

Doing this would not only not solve 53's problem, but would also dig 858's grave deeper.

Either introduce 53e from Sgoon Ctrl to Changi Airport/CGA to Sgoon Ctrl during weekdays peak hours or a new suppliment service from Hgdep to CGA using 53 route from Tampines Rd all the way to Airport

Thats why I said... LTA still living in the 80s... And refusing to do something about their "Great Wall of China" routes... Just ytd i waited >30 mins for two bus 5 to come at Simei Stn towards PSR... These routes are still not gonna work in the long term...

So the best way is to address the routes themselves... By making sure that there isnt too much a reliance on too many sectors on one single route...

In today's fast-paced society, it should no longer be a "one-service-fits-all" solution towards bus svc, but rather to seek for alternatives and attempt to use the element of CHOICE to displace the weight on heavily utilised train lines and long bus routes...

P.s. 290A is not the faster version. It is introduced together with 290 and passes through heavily-disputed 秀順 areas so that 290 can eventually become express, to shut the Sai Kung and KT council members up.

election is coming look at the north east where WP is on. i think it time to install opposition party to one of the GRC nearby. So the LTA will wake up like it is in north east to have more proper bus services in the east

I hear 53 is doing quite okay from a friend living in Pasir Ris.. Was out for drinks yesterday and mentioned to him coz he lives on the end of Pasir Ris Dr 1 towards Tampines side... And he takes sv 53 often to Pasir Ris Central or Loyang Ave though not to CGA..

Here is what he said:

-- It takes around 8 mins to Pasir Ris Central, and around 18-20 mins to Loyang Ave... so was saying he thinks you would be at CGA in 30 mins (during peak).

-- He said it is irritating bcoz there are many stops, but not that it takes 40 mins to cross entire Pasir Ris.

-- Frequency he said is quite okay though he does admit sometimes it takes 14-15 mins for bus to come, but he has not faced an issue with boarding even when bus is late, but says it is maybe coz it is first stop along dr 1.
