* Service will provide some relief to heavily crowded services like 359 and 6. Also faster than sv 359 to MRT for st 11/12 residents

* Fleet of 6 buses (3 DDs, 3 Citaros)

* Service under BSEP

There is no number categorization anymore... 49 should have been UEC but is Taman Jurong..

4 should have been long distance trunk... but is short route to Flora..

Over at Jurong West Extension, I would like to suggest a change in feeder routes 242 and 243.

In my opinion, I think I know why 243 and 181 has been heavily utilised at Jurong West Street 64 and 75. The reason could be because people in N6/N7 feels that 243 and 181 are more direct, as compared to 242. As a result, there are people who are actually under 242's coverage but they go and take 243 or 181. This may be the reason why 243 and 181 seems to be under-supplied.

If we let 242 provide a direct bus connection to Street 72 from Boon Lay, those under 242's coverage will really go and take 242. Meanwhile, the re-routed 242 can provide N7 and N8 people a bus connection to Pioneer MRT Station. The connection to Pioneer MRT may help to relieve some load over at Street 64, which may bring about another benefit, which is that the loading on buses at Street 64 and 75 may be reduced.

Meanwhile, at Gek Poh and Street 82, even with the re-route of 243, there's still 181 providing direct bus connection to/fro Boon Lay. Whereas at Street 81, the route to Boon Lay (via Pioneer Mall) will become shorter, which means a shorter ride for commuters going there.

Over at Jurong West Extension, I would like to suggest a change in feeder routes 242 and 243.

IMO, current bus fleet on 181/243 are taking care of loading well... Have bus every 05 mins.

For 242, AM peak is still okay.. PM queue at Boon Lay gets quite long.. Can have 1-2 DD crossover from 179A post 6pm. Problem should be resolved.

As for my opinion, I would rather have Svc 243 serving St 71 and then Svc 242 serving Pioneer Road North & Jurong West Ave 4 (Loop)

1/2 of me like the route as it connects St 12, and have a semi-feeder link from N1 East to Loyang Point. But most of the blocks there are within walking distance to Dr 1. From Dr 1, you got at least 4 services to Pasir Ris MRT (7 if routes towards Int are counted)

The other half of me thinks that we can just extend 359 so it can serve bi-directional at St 11. There is one section with very bad connections, which is the Blk 124-137 area. Even if we don't amend 359's route, there should at least a bus stop there (South side of Loyang Sec). The nearest stop to them is Loyang Sec stop, and if not taking 359, Blk 115 stop, which is quite far (when young, I used to hang out there, it is quite a distance to walk). Compared to the east half of N1, where residents still have access to Loyang Ave.

Sv 359 will not get extended to Loyang since it is feeder + the purpose of new service is direct connection for st 11/12 residents to Pasir Ris without doing st 51 unlike Sv 359. Also will have bi-directional loading as it will cater to the south part of Loyang Industrial estate that does not have a service today.

Over at Jurong West Extension, I would like to suggest a change in feeder routes 242 and 243.

Some pros and cons after analysing my proposal.

In terms of distance, not including distance saved by providing direct bus connection to N7, the total extra distance incurred (2.34km) is more than the total distance saved (1.66km), so this proposal does not really offer faster bus connections, especially to Jurong West Street 82.

Nonetheless, this proposal would provide three new bus connections and help to reduce loading. For instance,

Alright. I confess my proposal has flaws and may not be wise to implement. Nonetheless, I hope the suggestions (eg. a direct bus connection from Boon Lay Bus Interchange to Jurong West Street 72, from Jurong West Street 81 to Jalan Boon Lay, from Jurong West Avenue 4 to Pioneer MRT Station, etc.) in this proposal can be considered when there are new proposals to the bus network in Jurong West Extension being created.

So it is this way:

People staying in Jurong West Street 93 (and people covered by the bus stops at blk 834 and 709) will be affected most by your proposal.

In addition, if the route of 242 remains the same, yet it also serves people staying in Jurong West Street 93 (as well as people staying in Jurong West Street 81 and 71 now taking 243 from the bus stops at blk 709, 834 and 705), the loading on 242 will increase - although it will still be lower than the loading on 242 prior to 15 March 2009.

Although the load on 242 has already been reduced, the current supply does not seem enough to meet the current demand for 242. Until 242 is able to cope, we should not extend the coverage of 242.

Unless, besides extending the coverage, the extension can also spread out the load such that the (average) loading can be smaller - via extending to a MRT station (eg. Pioneer MRT Station) or a major bus stop elsewhere that is not within it's current coverage, where people can have another place to board the bus.

If extending the coverage can reduce the (average) loading, then only should we extend the coverage of 242.

Hi mr busanalyser, good to have such a very connected type of route for minor roads which brings people to doorstep. But not very feasible to implement.

1st: long detour for serangoon north residents to go hougang interchange/central

2nd: once a bus service goes into too many side roads (serangoon north ave 3/4, hougang st 91/51, Buangkok drive, sengkang east ave), it runs into the risk of current bus service no 3 which is very dragging. Route is too winding though fairly direct. Better to incorporate some side roads into another service and not to have all minor roads into 1 service.

Revisit this after noticing something. Probably why Svc 6 don't ply South Loyang Industrial is due to that area being walking distance from the bus stop at Dr 3 opp Pasir Ris Pri Sch. Pax heading there may take this route over Svc 108 as there are 2 svc there and way lesser stops to reach there. If 108 is amended to catch the Loyang Ave/Tamp crowd, it may be feasible (is that how to spell it?)

Anyway, it give me an idea for a route amendment.

I know we think differently here. I dont see the value of 116 to Hougang Interchange with its current route that duplicates sv 72 that has such a superb frequency. Those at Serangoon North will prefer Serangoon MRT over Hougang (faster). Else they have Buangkok MRT connection.

If someone really wants to go to interchange from Serangoon North, can take 116 to Hougang 1 and change to sv 72. I think you are missing out the number of HDBs and people the modified service will cater to.

Also connect st 91/51 to closest MRT that is Buangkok. And it is a straight road all the way. Also connects Upper Serangoon/Sengkang east ave to both Buangkok and Hougang MRT.

Anyway, its just a suggestion, which will use 116 better than what it is today even after 2 years of introduction.
