cool bike man... hope i can join de phantom family soon, but i should be getting the 150...

2t is must added.. to 4t( engine oil ) i think to lubricate the engine or something.. so.. the 200 phantom no need 2t just use 4t.. thus i find more convenient lohz.. maintainence wise..

i ride phantom150 for so long liao, doesnt vibrate when cruising leh.... i tink the 200 engine sounds like a drill, thats y feel vibrating especially at long rides.

PS: i would surely recommend phantom150 cos its faster n much more cheaper than 200. y spend extra $2000 on sumthing that is only newer than its 150 counterpart by at least 2 yrs? wats more, u might be riding for 1 yr plus only, i tink sure wil got difficulty sellling 200 away for 2nd hand at a high price......

it means diff technology of engines.
2 stroke:
- lighter
- delivers twice the power of 4 stroke engine in same cc
-polluting environment lots of 2t smoke
- consumes more petrol than 4 stroke

4 stroke: opposite

i recommend 2 stroke for 2b bike becos they r slow, 2 stroke makes u faster abit.... once reach 2a n 2, 90% all 4 stroke bikes liao

i got another question... how much would 2nd or 3rd party insurance cost for phantom 150/200? considering i am 21 this year, fresh rider... would u buy 1st, 2nd or 3rd party insurance for TA150?

petrol wise, how much is the difference? negligible? and bout the 2t part, how often is 2t added to 4t? how much at a time?

insurance wise must depends on the shop's policy... Normally if u pay instalments, u got no choice but to get 1st party or 2nd party (which r more ex). unless u pay full cash, can get a 3rd party which is cheapest one. But no 'bao3 zhang4' cos if anything happens cannot claim (u should know wat those insurance means by now)
mine is 3rd party from Mitsui, onli 250. considering i m below 21 n p plate rider........

petrol consumption wise
phantom150- 25-27 km per L
phantom200- 30+km per L

lets say u top up 7 times a month, u get extra about 300 km more for phantom200 to a 150.

for engine oil , 200 needs 2 bottles i tink, 150 need 1 bottle...
as for 2T, its about 2 bottles every 3 months
jus pour top up into the 2t tank every 5-6 weeks can liao

For small bike, maintainance is not so expensive :

Engineer Oil :

4 Stroke : Only engine oil - 3000~5000km

2 stroke : engine oil - 3000~5000km + 2T oil - 1500KM

Spark Plug

Generally - 3 months or 6000KM

Chain

Check every month - tighten when necessary

Coolant
Only Phantom 150 -- once a year.

Tyres
Check every 3 months - Change when necessary

Engine servicing
Once a year.

For Phantom 150 2 strokes, need to ensure 2T oil not dry out, else big trouble.....

hmm...
how to see if the chain is tight?
wads coolant? and how 2 check 2t status?

1) Any phantom riders tried to fix a tachometer? is it possible?
2) I was thinking about whether to fix a box, though with a box will be more convienent, but it will look better w/o a box~ any comments?
3) Which boxes are good? are they easy to force open?
4) To those riders without box, is it safe to lock the helmet by the side of the bike? is it easy to kiao open the lock? anyone lost helmet locked at bike before?
5) I noticed a lot of metal parts on the bike are very hot, any stuff i can install to prevent scalding myself?

i am not able to ans question 01...but

2)doing a box really save u alot of hassle of taking your helmets and stuffs everywhere you go. and Phantom does not compromised the looks if there is a box installed.

3) Generally Givis and Kappas are quite reliable. I suggest you get Givi as they are more "branded" and original. I asked chiap lee liao and these two brands same prices.

4) i dun believe in boxes until my helmets got kiao. the bast*ard not kiao, he actualy cut away the strap and go Ah boy beside there got a shop specialised in covering bike seats and do up spoilt helmets at a cheap price. so i guess that bast*ard went there to do lah Mad

5) not that i know of for phantom but there are alot of variety of crash bars which in directly will prevent you from scaldings if in the event you fall from ur bike (touchwood) Razz
i suggest you wear protective clothings like jeans or something. if your are planning to upgrading to big sized choppers, then get prepare for even more hot metal...hot chrome metal... Very Happy

How much are boxes? they come in different sizes right? which is the size can put 2 helmets? heard they must be installed with racks, how much to racks cost?

Generally, chain free play should usually be approximately quarter to 3 quarter inch, up and down, measured at the midpoint between the front and rear sprockets.

Phantom 150 use liquid cooling, same like car's radiator. coolant is a mixture water and coolant additive.

2T status ?
Sorry, not sure about Phantom 150...... used to ride 2strokes bikes over 10 years, check on 2T tank or the "OIL" light will turn on when 2T running low.....

Crashbar won't protect from scalding, it will protect the engine block and fuel tank from direct impact when bike fall to side.

Don't worry about the scalding, in normal riding, you wont touch the hot engine part.

Yes. As design of the 2 strokes engine, 2 strokes bikes need 2T oil to lubricate the piston block and rod.
2T oil is store in different tank, will mix with petrol in carburetor to be "suck" in to the to combustion chamber. The petrol will burn and the 2T oil will stay in the combustion chamber.

The excess 2T oil will be "push" out via the exhaust pipe and become white smoke.

Engine oil (or 4T oil) use to lubricate the engine, including gearbox, clutch, etc....

4 strokes engine no need additional oil to lubricate the combustion chamber, the lubrication is done by engine oil.

That also explain why you see only white smoke from 2T bike only.

TA200 has bigger engine block and having fins/blades for air flow to cool the engine.

TA150 has small engine block as it's design, a radiotor/coolant need to cool the engine. The bike look nice with the radiator too. Cool

Don't think TA150 can fix a electric starter.

Carburetor is the device used to control the throttle, the amount mixture of petrol and air enter the combustion chamber. Tuning basically adjust the ratio of the air/fuel mixture.

As for multiple carburetor/multiple piston engine, the balancing between each carburetor/piston needed to be carefully adjust, to make sure all piston have the equal amount fuel, and generate a well balance power, the engine will running smoother and effecient.
