A case of sour grapes? What will be your reaction if England are the ones who scored 6 goals past a WC opponent?

It is of course too premature and naive to claim that Argentina or Spain would win the WC based on just two performances.

But to say that England will surely win the WC is unfair to the other teams as well as naive to say the least. England and the rest of the other big teams stands an equal chance of winning, but nothing is for sure in a WC.

Yes England do have world class players, but so do other teams. Watch more of other leagues and it will broaden your football perspective. Instead of just keeping it narrow to just the EPL and knowing only players example like Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerard and Frank Lampard and thiking that only these three players and noone else can strike a vicious ball. The big test will be against Sweden tonight. England haven't proven anything that they are champions material. However, if they can go on and scrap 1-0 wins until the final , why not ? However, there are stronger opponents like Spain , Czech , Argentina and Brazil . Just these few are enough are able to beat England. Will they be able to do it ?

My mind says no, but you never know in football.

I believe the person who started this thread must be a faithful EPL supporter.. I myself watches the Premier League week in , week out and supports Tottenham. The matches are exciting but with EPL better labelled as the best in the world is very much down to successful marketing. England is an overhyped team with decent players. They are good enough to reach the last 8 and with luck , the semifinals. But to win the tournament will be a huge shock. Let’s face it , when have we see England ever impressing?

I'm not sure if that's remotely true. Granted, they didn't qualify in '94, but if you look at the World Cup campaigns they have had over the last 16 years(since their SF appearance at Italia '90), their defeats came against Argentina( '98 ) and Brazil( '02 ) - is it really that big a shame to lose to such decent teams?

If England was overhyped, where would you rank the Spaniards, Czechs and Dutch? (and that's coming from someone who is hardly an England fan)

England can be difficult to opponents and to themselves. Judging by the performance so far , so confident that England can win the WC . I am an EPL fan but I am fed up with all the press on England , " I can win the WC .... etc " Stricter tests coming up ahead. My opinion of England is still the same, Overrated team . England is strong and on their best days they can beat anyone BUT there are other opponents as well. World Cup is NOT all about ENGLAND . I hope some of you England fans get it .

I dont know but I just hope England quickly get knock out soon . This will benefit the Liverpool Trio, more rest for them.

One more thing : If you think winning 2 games , playing so shitty and negative , England can DEFINATELY win the Worlld cup, be prepared to be disappointed. Look at how struggling Brazil is. Almost the same situation as England but they are worse because they are expected to play much better then the games against Croatia and Australia.

England can win the WC if they stop crapping, play more positive. and show more respect to other opponents. Have you seen other teams boosting that they can win the WC other then England ? Go figure that.

Agreed. England certainly do stand a great chance of winning it. But as for those fans who only know about England and their players and nothing about others, well they have the same mentality of the English before the 50s.

The English of the pre 50s era, thought that they were the best and no one else were their match, therefore they felt it was of no sigificance to play in the WC. Well it was a case of a frog in the well. England was knocked out in the first round of the WC after agreeing to appear in their first ever WC tournament. Thier 1-0 defeat to the semi-amatuer US national team still remains today as one of the biggest shocks in WC history.

The English of today certainly do not have that mentality anymore after so many years of hurt.

But sadly, some of the fans of England of today, still have the frog in the well mindset. When England loses, they either blame the referee, or that the opponents were lucky instead of admitting that sometimes their opponents were indeed better than them. Neutral

English Rugby team consist of such old people. It was only Wilkinson's final drop kick that won them the world championships.

The next game will see a whole new bunch of young players. Have to wait and see.
