For readers who love a good cup of coffee, I’m sure there is
nothing as satisfying as drinking a cup of freshly brewed coffee in
the morning to kickstart your day.
For some of you, coffee is something you need just to kick yourself
awake and ready for the day’s challenges, especially if you have
had little to no sleep the night before.
For those of you who have a habit of drinking coffee daily, here is
the actual amount of coffee you should drink daily and the reasons
why too much coffee may be bad for your health.
Caffeine
Coffee is a stimulant that can help us to stay awake. The reason
behind the effectiveness of coffee is the high caffeine content
within the drink. Caffeine helps to block
the activity of a chemical found in your
brain that is associated with sleep and instead, tricks your brain
into producing adrenaline which energises you.
What most do not know is that in moderation, caffeine can indeed
energise you. But when consumed in large quantities, all caffeine
serves to do is to make you feel nauseous, dizzy and restless.
How
much a day
For regular adults, it is recommended that they consume an average
of 300-400mg of
caffeine daily, this translates to roughly 3-4 cups of regular
coffee or 1 cup of venti-sized Starbucks coffee. However
for those with heart conditions, it is not advisable for them to
consume the same amount of coffee as caffeine is a stimulant that
may cause increased heart rates and blood pressure, both of which
might be too much for their hearts to tahan.
Children and
caffeine
For children, it is recommended that they do not consume
coffee as the caffeine may affect their sleep, which is
important for a child’s brain development. Of course, do note that
coffee isn’t the only source of caffeine, and soft drinks like coca
cola contain caffeine as well, so be sure to moderate their
consumption too!
