uhh.. traditional version does not have coconut milk Razz

the traditional version is made unreasonably sweet, and then topped off with hot lard with shallots fried in it..

then pumpkin paste is added to the top and mixed in, eaten

it's very unhealthy but delicious Very Happy

there used to be a Teochew restaurant at Bedok called "hiang sua", but I don't know if they're still around. I used to go every year and they served SUPER DUPER DELICIOUS YAM PASTE!!!!!!! no pumpkin but still bery nice!!!!!

then there's this Yunnan restaurant at Tampines Mall, that's where I had the yam paste with pumpkin and coconut milk that tasted so divine... Embarassed

or my mom fries it with garlic and some kinda black bean sauce...takes a while to fry...but its NICE...

chop the garlic
chop pumpkin into large bite-size pieces
add oil to the pan
throw in garlic
then throw in pumpkin
think a little water has to be added Confused (forgot cos long time no cook )
fry and fry. then cover and just let the thing cook

cant remember when the black bean sauce has to be thrown in...
hehe... Embarassed

and i have no idea how to choose them also... Laughing Razz

Those big pumpkins they use for Halloween carvings don't taste nice at all. I prefer the local variety, thick and full, great for stewing.
