THE HISTORY OF BEDOK INTERCHANGE & ITS SERVICES
Bedok Intercahnge, commenced its operations on 25th February 1979,
marks the another milestone of its new bus interchange serving the
new Bedok New Town. It was generally the first bus interchange to
have a colour coding berth (Red/Yellow/Green), which makes boarding
easier for passengers and to identify the correct berth to board a
particluar service from Bedok Interchange. Sooner, the trend for
the new colour coding berth were introduced at later stages, i.e.
Tampines & Jurong East
It used to have 5 berths at a start, with 1 berth reserved for
Alighting, there wasn't any end-on berths (like the current
Interchange layout). However, in the later years, the Bedok
Interchange was expanded with the end-on berths to accomodate the
existing Chai Chee Terminal services, on which the terminal was
acquired by the HDB for housing developments. (Please refer to the
Shifting of Chai Chee Terminal services to Bedok Interchange
mentioned at the previous pages)

WHY 219 WAS RENUMBERED AS 229? A FAQ.
With the withdrawal of the old 229, the service 219 from Bedok to
Bedok South Rd becomes 229, to complement the 22x series of the
Bedok feeders, as the usage in the modern era of the 21x looks
odd.
