YIO CHU KANG TERMINAL - THE STORY
The Yio Chu Kang Terminal was constructed under the MRT viaduct
track in 1985/86 and begin its commission as a bus terminal with
boarding berths in 1987, which later serves the first 5 pioneered
stations that were opened in Nov 1987 - Toa Payoh, Braddell,
Bishan, Ang Mo Kio & Yio Chu Kang.
Its first service that terminates at Yio Chu Kang Terminal was
Service 73, which was actually amended to Yio Chu Kang from Toa
Payoh, on which it was previously a loop service from Toa Payoh to
Old Upp Thomson Rd. Alternate services would be 71 from Geylang
Firnge CP to Old Upp Thomson Rd
When the new Yishun satellite new town was under development, TIBS
has started its new temporary service, SS1 from Yio Chu Kang to
Yishun. This will provide linkage for new Yishun residents who were
heading to and from Yio Chu Kang MRT until the Norh-South Line
extended to Yishun.
Sooner, more services were amended to the Yio Chu Kang
Terminal.
Service 13 previously serves Ghim Moh to Bedok was ameneded to Yio
CHu Kang teminal, and thereafter, it was extended to Marine Parade.
With the closure of Marina Parade Ter, it was amended to loop at
Siglap Rd before it was amended again to Upp East Coast Ter when it
opened in 2002
Service 70 previously serves Jln Kayu to Shenton Way was amended to
Yio Chu Kang Terminal, followed up by amendments of Service 72 in
1992. Later on, Service 70# was introduced only on Weekday Night,
Saturday, Sundays & PHs. 70# was then extended to Suntec City
in 2000 and known as 70X. In 2001, it was amended to Yio CHu Kang
Rd & Boundry Rd and was amended again to Serangoon Ctrl in
2003. 70X was renumbered to 70M
Service 72 was introduced in 1996 as a weekday peak hour service
from Yio Chu Kang - Ang mo Kio Ave 5. It was integrated with
Service 80 and extended to Tampines, and converts into a full days
service.
Service 73 was then amended to loop at Serangoon North Ave 4 from
Toa Payoh
Service 76 was introduced as Yio Chu Kang - Marine Parade service.
In 1993, it was amended to Tg katong Rd and amended to loop at
Siglap Link when Marine Parade Terminal closed.
Service 138 was introduced as Yio Chu Kang - Singapore Zoo on 1 May
1994. However, to better serve passengers in Ang Mo Kio New Town,
the service was amended to Ang Mo Kio Int on 1st Oct 1994, when 171
was made to skip Mandai Lake Rd and continue its route to Marina
Centre / Yishun.
Service 162 was introduced as Yio Chu KAng - Shenton Way loop
service on 25 Feb 2001 with a variant of Service 162#. IN Dec 2001,
the service was amended to terminate at Shenton Way Ter. 162# was
known as 162M
Service 825 was introduced as Yio Chu Kang - Springleaf Garden. It
was shortened to Lentor Loop in 1997 and was amended in 2007 to
include the roads in Lentor Estate
Service SS1 was withdrawn with the opening of the MRT line to
Yishun.
With regards to 76
If i recall the bus was a Ang Mo Kio - Marine Parade service
introduced as AIR-CON in 1990.
