An SMRT bus 985 was involved in a 3-vehicle pile-up on the PIE
towards city direction, near the Stevens Rd exit yesterday at 10am.
The bus was travelling on the 2nd lane when the front doors
suddenly opened. The bus driver braked while trying to figure out
what's wrong. Unfortunately, the 2 lorries behind failed to stop in
time.
The 1st lorry with a crane attached swerved and hit the right
side of the bus. The 1st lorry was then hit by a NTUC lorry behind.
A passenger on the NTUC lorry was injured. The accident caused a
massive jam, traffic snaked all the way back to Ngee Ann Poly. A
bus passenger said the bus driver did not brake hard, the bus just
slow down gradually. SMRT and the police are investigating.
