I don't think fare stage numbers are regarded as important now
by LTA. They want commuters to rely on the service information
panels, and find out the bus fare needed through the A-F and the
colour codes, instead of relying on the old method of subtracting
fare stages and finding out the fare needed through the fare stage
travelled.
A consequence of the fact that LTA is taking over central bus
route planning, and hence is also in charge of the standardization
of presentation of bus route information.
Are they expecting us to carry the Transitlink Guide everywhere
to ensure that the Fare Consoles are synchronised to the bus
stop?
I use fare stages to ensure that the Fare Consoles are correctly
synchronised. Fare tables tell me when my 69 or 19 cent trips are
up so that I can alight and make a transfer.
