The OC500LE seats are good enough examples...I pity the folks maintaining the seats cos its gonna be tougher when there's 2 colours and patterns. Lest you think it is something trivial, that's because you've not been through such shit.

So what if the bus looks good? Isn't cleanliness and mainteinance and the ease of it far more important?

Well, SMRT is improving their passenger service a little too much. They invested in new PIS systems, bought new buses that aren't cheap, eventhough they are reliable and economical and unnecessary mobitec Electronic Display Signs. Also, their bendies are quite fuel hungry. It requires $500 worth of diesel to fill the fuel tank which would run out by the end of a regular AM/PM slot.

To make things more worse, the drivers are wasting the fuel by not sticking to schedule. One good example is Service 912. The buses bunch up very often, even during off-peak with even both buses with little or worst, no passengers. This is wasting precious money on precious diesel. Sorry if my reply turned into somesort of a rant.

Anyway, i fear LTA building more MRT lines because of inadequate land mass and the vast enviromental destruction involved. The downtown line depot at Kranji is already a clear example. They had to dig up quite alot of earth and cut vast amounts of forest and even exhumed a few graves which made me quite cross. It's better LTA improve our current lines and not build somemore. Also, if you depend too much on trains and one day a big disruption happens, Singapore's transport system would just stop like a snap of a rope.

The scholars are hedging a hell lot on the MRT lines. It had better work out although I dont think it would cos there's no way we can just suka suka shift the lines. Even expanding or contracting the capacity is next to impossible. It is possible actually. But for some reasons "costs" keep coming up as the main factor.

We've got our CPF and yet we're being held hostage by profits. Which part of that makes sense?

Thing is tat we can't be forever building MRT lines being very costly for one and looking at the DTL, new lines wun be tat convenient either (like buliding for e sake just for MRT to serve smaller neighbourhood and likely to take longer travelling distance mileage for transfer and to destination, resulting in even more expensive fares than current direct bus system).

Anyway they can tell me replacing ez-link single trip ticket w/ RFID chip technology (end up e chip no need to queue up again and return as the returning slot is located at the exit gantry) ish too costly. They dun even get it why there's long queues at GTM for stations like Orchard on weekends and they blindy tell me they're going to control e queue length .

Funny, they can be so willing to spend millions that e scholars themselves will never get to earn in their lifetime on MRT, yet small investment to improve our current quality of life they get scared over cost

SMRT's CFO says she expect stiff competition on e tendering public bus sv system. Pls la, the output they give to commuters currently would really end up like CMB in no time.

I think it is quite unfair to blame SMRT in any way. Well, if they think the outlook for bus operations is bleak and afraid of losing bus tenders, I don't see why they can't. It's the company forecast and things like these are often mentioned during financial reports.

Anyway, many decisions regarding our transport system have already left many bemused over them. In fact, the latest QoS doesn't seem to even serve its purpose. I still see 20 mins frequency getting scot-free from any potential fines and all the talk and no walk seems to have gotten even more cars on the roads.

I think you need to be more observant. The "world class" tag has been removed slightly after Raymond Lim took office.

The PIS system is useful, and the new one I find it more reliable than the original one.

Quality doesn't come cheap in this world, especially when it comes to passenger safety.

I think SMRT management in bus operation should look at the MRT line and do the planing if SMRT can provide some kind of bus service to support it MRT line it can make money from it. But the best as i said is the return the bus service to SBS and SBS return it train service to SMRT. And let LTA do all the service planing and see what new service idea LTA can come out?

I can see the coming years most likely is the SBS and SMRT reduce the number of buses on the road and SBS share the operation of train service with SMRT. or else how sbs going to least? That why you can see sbs just buying the same kind of buses 1100 of them. With the runing of circle lines most bus serivces will meger with the train serivce or withdraw just like in 1984

it's not like a zero sum game.

Contary to wat e CEO & CFO mention, the MRT has a limit it can take during peak hrs as well. It's not going to be possible tat everyone's travelling needs can be met by e MRT either.

It's just tat if buses are to survive, you need to change e model

I bet tat u can wait until christmas and still see zero bus svcs introduced.No doubt abt tat..lta has totally shifted its attention to trains.They r not gonna care abt buses anymore alr.I can assure u tat.I wash my hands on them alr.

My fren whose aunt works in lta,told me tat lta r planning to withdraw 97e wen circle fully opens.And the best part is he told me tat his aunt told him tat,lta looks more into trains now cuz they bring them more profit and tat buses dun bring much profit to them.Not a very surprising news isnt it?U can get ready to see more and more bus svcs getting axed as more and more ridiculous train lines r being built.

Go ahead remove 97e or even 97, force ppl to squeeze into e poor 3 - 6 mins peak hr freq of EWL and plunder it en-route BNV. Alrdy MRT's signal system is getting heywired alrdy, give it to handle more load.

Actually i also dun understand why they mus build so many bloody mrt lines for a freakingly small city lik singapore.They trying to beat New York/London subway line is it?No matter wat,the bloody fact remains tat singapore is still a small city.Wat for the need to overcrowd so many lines and wats the point?Its nt as if ppl r going to die witout mrts.The current lines alr so good enough.Go see Malaysia all.Its such a big country and many areas dun even have train links also.Singapore alr weather bloody hot,no forests,still wan take away the alr existing forests jus for the stupid mrt lines.Wat r thinking in their minds man?They dig and dig and keep on digging the tunnels deeper,one day the whole of singapore gonna sink.Lets see if they use their brains in time or wait for someting drastic to happen,then they tink abt wat they r doing.

SBS did a survey back in e 1980s and they also concluded an all bus system is not going to work either, they're not going to be able to cope.

But honestly, is how resources are allocated to spread ppl onto a choice of buses or train.

Dun forget CCL tat side needs to take NUH/ NUS, Pasir Panjang load. CCL peak freq somemore can only maintain at 4 - 5 mins w/ no of rolling stocks
