ya lor my fren got encountered once be4 , sms IRIS for Next Svc28 bus time to come, it did not sms back until svc28 come...

When going home from Vivo City, I SMS IRIS for Svc30 arriving timing , (the pro part), SMS mi back say next bus " 30 Min" Sus Next Bus "45 Mins" . I shocked sia..

Next time I will SMS IRIS and verify if there is any discrepancies between the two.

Lolx the LCD Panel also some not accurate too, I saw at Bedok MRT Bus stop de (not accurate) Svc 28 bus arriving lia0 , the Panel still can put 5 mins...

i only use IRIS for services that have long frequency - just so i know how 'long' i have to wait.

I tried IRIS again this evening on SBST200 and at the same bus stop. Here's the result:

Received reply at 1854h that NextBus will be 21min. That is bus shall arrive at 1815h.

Received reply at 1857h that NextBus will be 18min. That is bus shall arive at 1815h.

Received reply at 1906h that NextBus 4min (slow traffic, expect delay). That is bus shall arrive at 1910h.

Bus arrived at 1908h however.

If I choose to jalan jalan at the haw par villa, I will probably miss the bus.

So the lesson from here is that you have to SMS more frequent to get 'more' accurate results.

Again IRIS not up to standard yet.

Need to clarify why I think the bus arrive 2min earlier (1908h instead of 1910h). When the bus arrive at the bus stop, I can sense that the bus was travelling at top speed. The bus continue to travel at top speed to BV. (enjoy that fast ride however).

So that's explain why the bus was 2min earlier. Or rather IRIS was not intelligent enoughto compute the correct speed the bus was travelling.

If such a system allows upto 5minutes in accuracy (tolerance) (due to traffic conditions on roads...), then IRIS in the first place should not have implemented.

I accept IRIS only if it can reply with up to +/- 1 minute tolerances.

So far, i use Iris still quite accurate. Today just sms for service 52. tell me 9 mins, but 5 mins later another sms came that wrote "Next bus: 10mins .... .... Free update from SBST"

And your first sms tell you NEXTBUS 9 min, and 10 minutes later you received another updates NEXTBUS 10min. So your first sms was not valid at all. And the bus indeed arrived 10min later?

Correct, they gave me 2 updates ... and yup, the bus did arrive at abt 10~11 min later (after the 2nd sms) ...

i did an iris on 156 today.

i smsed at 6.09 while on my connecting bus 105 towards whitley rd to transfer. Said 6 min and 12 min

den i alight at whitley rd. i sms again. it was around 6.19. said arriving

true enough by 6.20 SBS8249Z arrived on 156.

so its not always unreliable. sometimes it works.

I think this system is a waste of money.

Whether the bus arrives in 5 mins or 30 mins, you still need to take the bus.

If the system cannot provide accuracy upto 1minutes, (due to road traffic conditions or many other variables), I agreed that this system should not have kick off in the first place. Having bus plate that display the approximate arrival time will be enough.

but sometimes i hate it when it takes super long for them to reply you

and it obvioiusly doesnt give you the estimated time, only the time where the bus travels at its current speed

reminds me of the lta signboard at most expressway entrance..

i thought they adjust it based on the traffic conditions too? i seen it go up when theres a jam and go down when there isnt.

this morning i sent an irismessage for svc 170 at bus stop 45139 (Kranji Station). usually for the part of 170X, it is like this:

Next Bus: Not in Service
Subsequent Bus: No Current Prediction

then this morning, the timings of 170X appeared...found it weird...
