+/- 1 min tolerance? i dun think this is possible... sometime the
bus wait for the traffic light to turn green already 1 min plus
already... road conditions are not that easy to control.. bus can
be at the previous bus stop and if u use iris, it will show
arriving at your bus stop, but then bus might come 5 mins later,
for many reasons -- many ppl trying to board at previous bus stop,
passenger asking for direction with BC, BC assisting PIW in
boarding or alighting, or simply the bus cant move because it was
stuck behind another bus at the bus stop. then got to wait at
traffic light.. some time, have to wait longer especially those
busy right turn junction..
if you are not happy with Iris, it is your choice not to use it. If
not, maybe you can design a better system with 100% accuracy at
lower cost than what SBST is paying..
I understands the constraints that may give rise to the
'inaccuracy' of the system, traffic conditions for instance. And
all the points you bring up are valid, that is it is very difficult
or rather impossible to come up with a IRIS system that
can give a +/- 1 minute accuracy.
So my point is, if at the beginning, we are aware of
the constraints that IRIS will not be a 'accurate' system,
rather it can only provide an approximate
time, why bother to come up with such a system? Anyway
average waiting time for most buses will probably less
than 10 minutes.
I appreciate having IRIS if average waiting time
for most buses were 45 min / 1 hour however.
