In fact we need more direct/express services if the LTA really wants to encourage more people to take public transport. In fact all the Cityshopper services...

Don't forget the important link it serves between the Bishan and Bradell Area as well as the North Canal Rd area.

yeah, but my guess is sbst wont amended too much of its services.. maybe smrt will? SMRT will be saying 'Take our MRT'!! lol.

SBS9888Y SG

Too early to say. And remember now buses are allowed to duplicate train lines.

its mature rail lines. not all train lines.

SBS n SMRT SG

LTA say that CCL open a lot of pple need to transfer, anticipate withdrawal and modification of many services

I think 853 will be affected, since it would run parallel to the NSL, CCL, and NEL from Yishun to Potong Pasir. I can tell that demand for 853 would drop quite significantly after CCL opens.

Maybe more UD will replace the other rigds in 853

jayh272416 SG

TSL perhaps 162. Go from Sin Ming all the way to Orchard.

By the time, UDs might have been replaced instead.

The main question is whether the Circle line can cope, with YCT's LTA's usual short sighted plans (Circle line was planned during his time mah), things can go wrong, its basically 40 x 3 car trains which are running on high demand sectors, especially with Bouna Vista/Portsdown developments and the stretch between Bishan and the city. And if SMRT cannot cope due to YCT's idea of a "medium rail", then buses would still be needed.

sv966 SG

I don't think they will withdraw the routes, but amend them, since the new LTA rule states that bus services are allowed to duplicate train lines.

Bus services are now allowed to duplicate MATURE rail lines.

sBs_boy SG

Bus services are now allowed to duplicate MATURE rail lines.

One thing that they never state clearly..
How do you actually define "Mature" ?

- A Train line that has been existed for a very long time (min 10yrs) ?

- A Train line that is already at its near capacity ?

Something to think about it.

Heheh ... Who knows if they might decide to extend 853 to goto Upp East Coast everyday instead, and make some modifications in the route along AMK to Boon Keng ?

Mature mean EWL and NSL not NEL and CCL

With SPH in helm of SMRT, who believe on her words, see the oc500le launch date, and now only 1 new oc500le, by year end, i doubt that there willl be 49

SBS n SMRT SG

answer may be adding more service 128 type to help CCL to cope

Disagree. NEL also sees high loading during peak hour. If they want people to convert to public transport, they need to minimise such peak hour squeeze into NEL trains.

They should have realised by now, the NEL rationalisation exercise of 2003 was much of a mistake. NEL's peak hour loads is definitely comparable to NSL's, if not more.

But that was what i heard in the Train Forum, in my opinion, i agree NEL is a mature line
