sbst275 SG Sv 91 has VO3x crossovers Sv 82 and 103 was aft the NEL rationalisation Sv 151 fleet is unstable these days... Sv 115 would likely to go FAC if an A/c bus is to replace 1810Z unless they wanna redeploy either 1832K, 1835C, 1838U, 1845Z, 1851E, 1862Z, 1864T to Sv 115 instead
sbst275 SG Sv 154A (Crawford St Jurong) Later on became Sv 209 but route adjusted Talking abt Jurong, did anyone had any idea abt Jurong Bus Plan? Was Sv 78 implemented under this plan?
Apex-LW'21 SG SV78 doesn't fall under this plan. But btw,I remember looking this article & photocopied it from the old New Nation newspaper dated 1 Mar 1978. Those Jurong routes terminated at various locations were being intergrated to call at Jurong Int instead.
simnatic SG Wait...TIBS was formed in 1982, started operations around 1983. Yet, even at that time, they were 'grabbing' routes...
Apex-LW'21 SG 190 was formed in 1988 (Bt Panjang to New Bridge Rd) , but in fact it was re-introduced. 190 was previously Jln Bukit Merah Prince Edward Rd in the early 1970s until withdrawn in 1979.
SBST390 SG 171 was never controlled by KJ. SBS gave up 171 to TIBS in Nov 1995 as part of the mega swap with the BPJ services. It didn't make sense to have a single SBS service operate out of YIS (it was xtended after the service got movec from the old Mandai Road PO to the defunct terminal where the Nee Soon Driclad now is). The BBDEP O405 OACs and CACs were replaced by the UD U31RCNs CACs (28x, 31x and 336). becos not enuff buses, the service downgraded to PAC, until the time the box merz came in and it became one pf the first services tio go FAC. The UDs were based in AMK
Apex-LW'21 SG Looks like no one ever reports that Service 402: Stamford Road to Bt Timah Rd (Race Course Special SHuttle) in the 1970s, withdrawn Service 402: Bedok Int to Tanah Merah Country Club (ad-hoc) in 1994, withdrawn Service 402 (??): Bedok to Singapore Expo (ad-hoc) in 1999/2000 , withdrawn (found this from PTC Annual Report 1999/2000) Service 402: Marina Coastal Dr to Anson Rd(Loop Service) ================================================= Service 405: From Jurong Int to Jurong Bird Pk (Loop), withdrawn Service 405: From Boon Lay to CCK Rd End
TIB1018B SG Service 171 was a PAC fleet under SBS. Tibs wanted to maintain its PAC status for service 171 so they got to deploy some NAC Nissan buses to service 171 as well as the new AC Merc buses. But things turned around for service 171 when all the NAC Nissan buses were replaced by the newer NAC Scania Elbos (TIB839E-TIB844P I think ) in 1996. TIB838H when new on service 171 was under AMDEP. The bus was then transferred over to KJDEP a few months later where it got redeployed on the newly introduced service 960. Service 171 was never controlled by KJDEP before even though it pass thru Kranji area . But I think service 171 was ever partial controlled by WLDEP before in the beginning of WLDEP days, after which revert back to full AMDEP control again when Sengkang came under SBS.
The_Bus_Guide SG When 197 shifted from Jurong to Boon Lay, it was still going to Geylang Lor 1. The Boon Lay Interchange Guide and the 1990 Bus Guide reflects this. The Bedok amendment came later.
The_Bus_Guide SG The Leyland Victory can be considered as SBS's first CAC buses. They were chosen because its engine was powerful enough to take the extra weight of the aircon wihout affecting the performance. The only problem was the high level of saloon noise which discomforts passengers and fatigued drivers. This was solved by adding an insulation of glass fibre and synthetic leather around the engine cover. The Victories were introduced in 1976. Then, the life span of public buses was 15 years so by he time the O405 came in (1991), the Victories were retired. There were no reports of it being exported so its most likely that they were all scrapped.
The_Bus_Guide SG There were more manifestations of 179. 1. Lim Chu Kang - Upp Bt Timah Rd 2. Bukit Batok - New Bridge Rd 3. Choa Chu Kang - New Bridge Rd 4. Choa Chu Kang - Fajar Rd 5. Boon Lay - NTU For 185, it used to be Choa Chu Kang - Shenton Way before Choa Chu Kang - Jln Anak Bt. Even before that, it was Clementi - C'wealth Ave then Clementi - Bt Merah. A Scheme B service 185 runs the Clementi - Bt Merah route together with SBS. After SBS withdrew sv. 185, the Scheme B service continued for many years. Not sure if it is still running today....
demag_ac SG No, the lifespan of buses were still fixed at 12 years then. 1976 plus 12 = 1988. It was only in the 1990s that ROV changed it to 15 years, then in early 2000s, changed to 17 years.
sbst275 SG I suspect the purchase of the DM3500 was actually to prepare for the retirement of the O305 in 1998 by looking at the time of launch But the O305 got to live for 3 more years
ZYX2005 SG some research evealed express like bus services in 1980s and late 70s they were express like 6 - bedok - chaintown in a sense, probably the predecessor to chinatown direct to bedok. fleet unknown express like bus 7 - bedok - orchard rd - dempsey ter i tink express nicholl HW.. ah yeah last time 7 go nicholl HW mainly DDs service 8 was rather famous bedok - shenton way sort of like premium service full DD atleantan of cuz.
