Look, we can say overall bus sv is good, but seeing svs like 151 you know how horrible it can go

17 years means 17 years... It's already good enough taking that SBS buses could only be used for 12 years bef 1990's

I don't think you realise how good you have it in Singapore. Sydney still has 27 year old buses in service. These are the venerable O.305s but they are starting to get on a bit. You want to keep complaining about 15 year old buses???? When I am in Singapore, I live alongside the 151, the 154, 153, 67, 66, 170, 171, and 186. I cheer for the time I get a B10M Mk II. I don't particularly like the Mk IIIs or the Mk IVs (especially those with Voith gearboxes). Enjoy the buses with character while you can.

That said, I'm not too enthused by the way the services have been cut along the Hougang Road corridor with the introduction of the NEL, but every company has to answer to the bottom line. Things in both the big 2 will never return to the days pre semi-privatisation. Bring back the old SBS and TIBS and CSS days. Progress has its pros and cons, unfortunately.

Give me 24 hrs notice and I’ll jump on a plane over to Singapore and ride the Mk IIs and the Scanias. As I said, if you think that what you have is bad, with a fully integrated ticketing system, majority air-conditioned fleet and buses which are mostly airconditioned (though not mostly stepless entrance), then don’t travel too far out of your little comfort zone (ie across the causewya to Malaysia, to Brazil, to Eastern Europe, to Australia, Fiji (which, funnily enough has alot of ex SBS Albion and leyland Vikings), or anywhere, really.

Majority aircon fleet???

Take 151 NAC MK2, squeeze in a overloaded NAC bus with 100 passenger inside from Macpherson all the way to NUS for more than 1 year plus the smoke smell... Unless you are a real bus nut then you would enjoy in a furnace for 1 hr

Who asked you to be on the same bus for 1 hr, going from Kent Ridge to Hougang? Jump on it from Kent Ridge to Clementi Rd, change for a 153! I'm sure there are other transfers you can make, with a chance of a/c buses. Look at the fleet of SBST as a whole... most of them are air-conditioned. Methinks you are just complaining for the sake of complaining.

If going to Macpherson from the same location, get on a 154! Or do the 151 to Dunearn Rd, and change for a 66. There's always options.

Complaining for the sake of complaining??? Who are you to force ppl to make unecessary transfer when taking 151 is a direct trip? Unless you are willing to compensate ppl for taking their time to transfer and end up waiting for 2 overloaded 151 along Clementi Rd bef able to board to get to NUS??

FFS… If you want to complain, then maybe the more relevant avenue to get your point across would be to SBST direct. From my point of view, I live in a country where I can deal with the heat and humidity which is far worse than Singapore’s. You want comfort? Catch a taxi. Or wait for an a/c bus.

What is the proportion of non a/c buses to a/c buses on the 151? Again, you haven’t told me whether you have gone down the suitable avenues to complain. I’ve been through university and 4 years of it, and I worked during the time I could just to pay my fees, and still have enough saved for a one year working holdiay to the UK. Travel costs, food costs, and accommodation costs in Sydney are far more extortionist than they are in Singapore. You want to be an apologist for poor uni students, you go ahead.

Apologist??? Now they have forced everyone to buy 1 type of stamp, only for "Aircon" buses. They go catch ppl for 'makan' them, yet ppl cannot charge them for 'makan' them Rolling Eyes

Then explain to me why svs like 8, 69, 119, 136 can be FAC svs even though there's either high concession usage or serves teritary inst?

Wheras long haul like 74, 151, 154 or those serving Ind Est dun deserve?

Looks like to me it's very clear, other than favourtism, the mgmt at the depots dun even manage the services well. It's like I dun like this sv, so more NAC buses.

Feeder buses the fare diff the most is 5c, trunk like 151 can be up to 25c. So a feeder bus even carry until fully loaded, they earn $8 per trip to and fro if based on 80 passengers... Wheras trunk fleet, just 32 passengers from 1 direction trip can get this $8... Carry like siao on feeder earn little, yet they still get priority for a/c fleet.

NAC Fares are much cheaper as compared to AC Fares over a long distance?
Actually Sv151 NAC MK2 WAs not so bad in terms of pollution and ventilation during off peak, its quite good in fact, BUT try PM Peak for long distance plus lots of people, can die suffocating!!!

Again, it comes down to the bottom line. Of course the bus operators are going to strategise and make the more highly patronised services fully A/C. non a/c buses will also consume less fuel, so on the longer haul services, you can get as many journeys out of the one vehicle from one tank of fuel. I think you are taking a rather narrow-minded view of the way things are run, and jumping to conclusions given that you don't have any idea about how to run a bus company.

As for profit, defintely it's much more. Though NAC buses are lighter hence consume lesser fuel... What do you mean by diff of fuel consumption of long and short haul rts when the fc is goes in tandem of the dist travelled forthe rt?

You clearly have no idea by what I mean when i say "bottom line". The extra fares still add to the profit margine (ie. the bottom line). I can tell you in no uncertain terms that it will still cost more to run an a/c bus than a non a/c bus. Simply because of fuel costs, tyre wear, maintenance, etc. Yes they are longer and carry more pax, but they are heavier and slower than the 2 axle non a/c buses. They also impact more on the road because of their weight.
